I’m normally a half-full supporter, and rarely a prophet of doom.
However, if tomorrow follows the pattern of recent ETIHAD defeats, with City’s lack of pace exposed by rapid counter attacks, then I really will be asking questions of our esteemed Manager, and his obsession with Plan A
Let’s be clear about this.
We can’t win the Premier League every year, and a clearly focussed Liverpool have enjoyed a tangible advantage with injuries, refereeing decisions, VAR technology, and media support. They’re even patronised for struggling with a fixture backlog despite City facing an equal amount of games against arguably superior opponents (I’d rather face the Champions of Mexico than United in a Semi final)
However, it’s not Liverpool’s fault that we signed Cancelo when the priority was surely a replacement for Kompany.
We can’t blame Liverpool for Bernardo Silva’s dramatic loss of form coinciding with Sterling going off the boil.
For all of David Silva’s undoubted achievements, he’s been a peripheral passenger for the last 12 months, occasionally reminding us of former glories, but sadly no longer the conductor on the pitch.
Even Ederson has made more mistakes this season
Plan A is fine when we’re firing on all cylinders, but otherwise our midfield is one paced and the defence too cumbersome to compete with the pace of Mane, Rashford or Vardy.
3-0 for City!
