Honestly, dropping Rodri for Gubdogan in this game is one of Peps most surprising moves ever IMO

The most counter attacking, breaking at pace side in the the country and be drops the defensive mid for Gundogan.

Is he basically saying we're fucked defending counters anyway so at least Gundo will help us keep possession?
Looks like it. We didn't exactly defend united's counter attacks well when Rodri started instead of Gundogan. I think Bernardo's energy in midfield will make a difference.

It really does depend on how we defend today. If they score first, we will find it really difficult to break them down without conceding again.
We need Gundy, Mahrez and Bernardo to have a brilliant game today otherwise we are staring down the barrel of a defeat. If we move the ball quickly forward and be direct, we will create the chances, but if we let them get settled, we WILL get caught out trying to pass a million times before going forward.

2-1

Or

1-2

Difficult to call. Hopefully we turn up for this, but if we should lose, at least it’s to someone who can chase down the dippers.

Surprised to see no Rodrigo but I quite like putting Bernardo more central. Got to press them hard with a high defensive line to stop then passing too easily through the midfield. It carries risks but if we drop deeper defensively to protect against their pace (as we did against the rags) then they will just cut straight through us.

Rodrigo perhaps isn't at peak fitness and he isn't that much more mobile than Gundogan.

Are Leicester that much of a counter attacking side? They’ve certainly got the players to do that but from the limited games I’ve seen them play they play a largely possession based game with the ability to counter too not unlike us when we had Sane and Sterling either wing.

I don’t see it as that much of a surprise, Rodri hasn’t got the pace to deal with the counter anyway and nor does Gundogan so he’s opted to go for the more forward thinking of the two and the better ball player than the added height and physicality. As you say it’s a case of we’re fucked either way in that regard so let’s lets look for an advantage elsewhere.

Hmm me thinks midfield will be ok with silva in the middle as well

let’s face if we struggled first half against Utd and 2nd half against oxford with Rodders

Rodris slow as feck, but he brings physicality, defensive awareness, height and the occasional forward pass. The problem with him this season is that it has been no legs around him, trust me Fernandinho would have struggled in the same conditions.

Gundogan is weak, slow, doesnt sniff danger and a backwards passing coward
