Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

Looking at the teams for rags v everton yesterday - Maguire, Shaw and Pickford all featured.
Yet Sterling, Walker and Stones nowhere to be seen for us. Yes I get that our lads may arguably have had more minutes in the Euros but I doubt their will be much difference in the stats.
Think it's pretty poor to be honest given the expense of going to London for our fans and the traffic shit of the M6.
I think we short changed our fans a bit yesterday too be honest.

I have seen nothing from Ake to suggest he is anywhere near good enough for us on so many levels.

He can only play left side of the pairing and still can't pass wide of himself.

He's slow, positionally poor, and the game at Newcastle last season gave me concerns.

We will drop a major bollock allowing Laporte to leave instead of Ake, who was only ever bought because the club thought Stones would be leaving and Dias would be the right side of a Laporte pairing.

The third centre back and the continued reliance on Fern's legs could cost us dear.

I know he is young, has time, his advocates, but I also see little in Torres?

He's not quick, he doesn't beat a man with trickery, we initially bought him as a winger, but even down the middle, you forget he is even on the pitch in the large majority of games.

Perhaps diplomatic for me to just say not my cup of tea and think people possibly overly optimistic he can be relied upon to be a back up striker, because he can't cut it out wide?

Ake has been abysmal so far, if Laporte goes we need another top level CB, preferably right footed as Dias seems best on the left.

Only mitigation is he plays next to Mendy a lot and he's a car crash, so may improve if in a settled defence, but what's the point in a 4th choice CB who can't just drop in at short notice.

I'd like to see Torres play with a decent striker, Sterlings form tailed off completely with the false 9 so maybe why Torres has struggled.

I was actually stunned when I saw Torres' name during the game. I literally had no idea he'd started. Did very little.

Torres not quick? He was clocked 6th or 8th fastest player in La Liga in his last season there.

are u having a laugh?, they were missing Jmes, Evans, Castagne and Fofana, lets not go over the top about relative strengths.
They were missing four players, we were missing our first choice keeper, three of our starting back four, the best midfielder in the league, the best Young midfielder in years, plus England's player of the tournament. I rest my case on relative strengths.

Then that league is slowing down faster than I thought ;)

He's not quick, or should I say, not quick enough?

Genuinely, I hope he proves me wrong, but like Rodri, I don't think he will get much better, much as I keep telling myself they need time.

There are basic fundamentals.

Same reason doesn't matter if Mendy now turns himself into the fittest player in the league, the guy lacks the intelligence to be a top defender.

The success last season masked our lack of goals. We won the league but our goals scored figure was below our average for the past ten seasons. I think it was the lowest of our five recent title wins. We need a striker; preferably that Argentinian who seems pissed off five minutes after joining Barcelona, or Haaland, but Kane will do if we don't get shafted by Levy.

And another thing, Pep gets booked for questioning why Palmer in full flight about to head the ball gets deliberately knocked off balance which affected his fall. Yet BR twats a water bottle 20 yards down the line and clearly seen on TV and not a word.

Nowt against BR but Pep wouldn't have got away with that.
From Law 12 of the LotG:

CAUTION

Caution offences include (but are not limited to):

dissent by word or action including:
  • throwing/kicking drinks bottles or other objects
  • action(s) which show(s) a clear lack of respect for the match official(s) e.g.sarcastic clapping
A good job the officials know the laws.

I've been a fan of Ake's for years and was really pleased when he signed. Last year injuries disrupted his season and it was too early to judge, but this is a big season for him and he's had the worst start possible. Hopefully it will click for him, but it is a concern, especially if Laporte does leave.

I completely agree RE Torres. Yes, he was a young player in a new league, but as you say, considering he was signed as a wide player he very rarely beats a man, or tries to? He has shown signs of a ruthlessness in front of goal which is encouraging, but if we do sign Kane and Jesus stays, will he even get any opportunities to play there? Again, it's another big season for him. Hopefully he will step up and prove us wrong, yesterday was his first pre season game and he definitely wasnt the only one well off the pace.
