Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

They were missing four players, we were missing our first choice keeper, three of our starting back four, the best midfielder in the league, the best Young midfielder in years, plus England's player of the tournament. I rest my case on relative strengths.
Leicester subbed off all their best players in the last half hour and we replaced kids / fringe players with the likes of Grealish, Bernardo and Rodri. We had a far stronger team for the last third of the game than leicester did in terms of first team players

I totally expected us to win when those changes were made by both managers but the lack of a cutting edge in front of goal yet again cost us for the umpteenth time

We desperately need a striker.. which means we desperately need Kane as it appears he is the only one we’re interested in

I can see am underwhelming season unfolding if we don’t get him

I would consider myself more critical of our players than others here but I have to say I am far from losing hope from either torres or ake. Ake has made an awful error yesterday and that's a massive cause for concern, but actually had a good game other than that (I made a point to pay attention to him in particular)

Torres can not be relied upon to be a striker, this is a joke and something that the club should have been dismissing long ago. Everytime i hear a journalist saying that the club thinks it's okay if we don't sign a striker because we have jesus and torres can play false 9 I cringe. I hope that's not the case, we NEED a striker so badly.

However, I wouldn't say torres had a considerably weaker first season than say, leroy had or bernardo had. Takes a season to get to understand your role in pep's system. The burden of proof is entirely on him and he cannot be treated with kid's gloves anymore. he has to break through and soon. at the very least, he has to show abilities that you'd expect from top class wingers, such as the ability to go past a man, cross/cut in dangerously and generally disrupt the tempo of the game, something that I very rarely saw from him in his first season.

I have seen nothing from Ake to suggest he is anywhere near good enough for us on so many levels.

He can only play left side of the pairing and still can't pass wide of himself.

He's slow, positionally poor, and the game at Newcastle last season gave me concerns.

We will drop a major bollock allowing Laporte to leave instead of Ake, who was only ever bought because the club thought Stones would be leaving and Dias would be the right side of a Laporte pairing.

The third centre back and the continued reliance on Fern's legs could cost us dear.

I know he is young, has time, his advocates, but I also see little in Torres?

He's not quick, he doesn't beat a man with trickery, we initially bought him as a winger, but even down the middle, you forget he is even on the pitch in the large majority of games.

Perhaps diplomatic for me to just say not my cup of tea and think people possibly overly optimistic he can be relied upon to be a back up striker, because he can't cut it out wide?
I’ve said the same regarding Torres, I see him as being as being like Sane on the ego front too

Leicester City fan here, in peace as usual.

There weren't any Leicester City (or Villa) fans there to boo him last season because of COVID, but as I recall, he got some (fairly good natured) stick the previous season when we played Villa four times, including losing on aggregate in the Milk Cup and putting four past them home and away in the League. A lot of us think he's a cheating little **** who falls over a bit to easily, although to be fair, a lot of us would also love him to be playing for Leicester City.

Incidentally, I don't think booing him is anything to do with the Euros and it's not just a Midlands thing - Grealish will get booed all over the country. But @Keeper!'s comment is the most sensible - time to worry when people start ignoring him.

And I enjoyed yesterday, so there :)
You're going back a bit. Last called the Milk Cup in 1985/86!

Congratulations (through gritted teeth) on your team's win yesterday. Let's see how we go on against each other when we both have full strength sides, which will be a truer test.
The first cup match(es) between us that I saw was in 1965/66, and went to Filbert Street on many occasions.

To keep it 0-0 with kids and fringe players set us up nicely and we could and should have gone on to win the game. I agree, match fitness was an issue though and don't get me started with the officials who were a disgrace.

that's disingenuous. they subbed on great players who they only just bought like Daka and Soumare.

Looking at the teams for rags v everton yesterday - Maguire, Shaw and Pickford all featured.
Yet Sterling, Walker and Stones nowhere to be seen for us. Yes I get that our lads may arguably have had more minutes in the Euros but I doubt their will be much difference in the stats.
Think it's pretty poor to be honest given the expense of going to London for our fans and the traffic shit of the M6.
I think we short changed our fans a bit yesterday too be honest.

We also played a longer season than the Rags mate. I think the cumulative effect of that needs to be weighed up too.

I'd far rather our players get good rest and recovery, ahead of playing in a glorified friendly. You may feel short changed, but I daresay it's for the end goal of the club being able to compete on multiple fronts for higher honours.

Ake made an awful error agreed but Rodri shouldn't have put him in that position in the first place. Piss poor from Rodri that was.
