Leonardo Bonucci

I'll take a fit Bonucci over a fit Kompany any day. Kompany is a legend here no doubt, but we need to win and move on from players who cannot help us anymore. I do think there is a role for Kompany still but I would not feel confident if he were being relied on as an every day starting 11

Really painful this, but Bonucci is another level, particularly in a Pep system.

Just hope we haven't seen the end of Kompany too.

Guardiola is interested in Stones, but also wants to add an experienced CB and sees Bonucci as ideal. City considering a second bid. [Times]

City could invest as much as £100m in Bonucci and Stones as part of Pep Guardiola's overhaul at the back. [Mirror]

The Times now reporting Bonucci interest as well, looks like there is something in this after all

I think it's clear that Pep will not accept relying on Kompany. He already went through a shitshow at Barcelona when he was let down by Puyols fitness.

I'd say Kompany pre-Pellegrini was better than Bonucci, but Bonucci is definitely the better of the 2 now, and also has the passing.

I'd hope that Kompany would regain that 2012 form under Pep, and the two of them toghther would be immense.

However, I'm not sure how we can fit into the squad restrictions, let alone balance Bonucci, Stones, Otamendi and Kompany, even if VK is injured more often than usual, let alone Denayer.

I assume Delph will be included, possibly Mangala. Even on the main list a couple are debatable. There's room for Stones and Bonucci though.

Guardiola is a big fan of Bonucci and feels he could be his defensive kingpin because of the injury concerns over Vincent Kompany. [Mirror]

i can't see juventus wanting to sell their best player or bonnuci wanting to move. if we did sign him i can see mangala and otamendi going. he is one of the best defenders around

Its hard to imagine Juve selling Bonucci and Pogba in one window. The ladder which I believe would help us land Kroos. But Pep obviously sees deficiencies. Unfortunately Denayer didn't look special in his start the other day either. We need 2 CBs not to mention 1-2 fullbacks which we havent started on either

You like to think city will have sounded out Bonucci first, that's the way these deals work now... get the ok from player then bid/negotiate.

Can anyone think of one good reason for Juventus to sell him?

Can keep hold of Pogba and use the money to rob another club of their best centre half at a smaller fee.

Edit: Add to that if Bonucci wants to leave, they wont turn down serious money for a 29 year old.

No CB is 'on another level' to Kompany........when/if fit. Both top level yes.

That quote in mirror.." will up bid to £51m" ...........imagine the discussion in the boardroom, "they turned down £38m,lets up it by 13m" LOL

Why I haven't wasted money on a newspaper for over 30yrs.

Pep had 6 CB's on hand at Bayern. I wouldn't be so quick to think Mangala and Otamendi are going to be sold. We have to start having a new way of thinking now that Pep is actually here. He now has an extra trophy he's going to want to win compared to his last 2 clubs. He's going to want to keep the squad fresh and keep the squad at a high level. Not just having a good starting XI and serviceable guys in the squad. Often times it's been mentioned how we had depth only to be let down by the guys who weren't usually on the 18 man match day list coming into the line up. Now we are looking to have genuine depth at every position. Pep likes to see who understands the different tactics for each game so we won't always have the same line up/formation unless we hit the ground running and the first XI we use is beating everybody.

All and all I would hold off on betting who's going to get sold and just appreciate the possible in comings. We might be on the verge of something special.

They won't stand in his way if he goes to them and say I want to join City, make it work. Happened with Tevez and Pirlo. The only thing holding up Pogba is he actually hasn't shown any desire to leave...yet.

pretty sure they can keep Pogba without selling any key players tbf

Well I know they don't need the money massively, but this would give them some serious money without selling one of their young hopefuls (Pogba, Dybala) who only seem to be going up in price.

He would be a brilliant signing despite being 29 years old. We need a leader at the back and cannot keep relying on Kompany. We can't put the responsibility on Stones to lead the defence if we get him as well, a captain figure is needed in our team desperately.

However, I don't think we stand any chance of signing him. For juve to sell Bonucci and Pogba in the same window, well... That would be borderline suicidal.

You've forgotten we are almost definitely signing Leroy Sane and Bruno Peres.
