So if we get Bonucci & Stones(and I dont believe we are in for both tbh, it's either/or) who makes way? Does Kompany become expendable too, assuming it's Mangala going first?
We definitely want two centre backs this summer.
It was Stones and Laporte, now it looks to be Stones and Bonucci. A world class centre back and a future world class centre back. Sounds brilliant to me.
I think Pep will look to go 3 at the back, hence the urge to sign two top centre backs but no top full back.

I don't see a reason why anyone has to leave if we only buy 1. That would be 5 CBs, including one who's always injured and Denayer who will probably cover CB and RB. Would love this one to be true, but I still can't see Juve going along with it.

The more pertinent questions is "is Kompany reliable in terms of injuries?". I love the guy. He's our captain, already a club legend and seems one of the nicest blokes in the sport. Hell, even his wife is a blue. He's married to the club. When he's fit, there are few better defenders in Europe than Vinnie.
...but he isn't fit. And baring a drastic 180 in terms of injury, his ongoing issues mean he isn't player we can entirely rely on.
If Mangala is on his way out, we need two proven centre backs. Pep and the club know this, and that's what they're seemingly going for.
And if he does somehow regain full fitness on a regular basis? Well, I'd rather be over-stocked than under prepared.

I reckon under the right guidance, Kompany, Mangala, Stones, Otamendi,Bonucci means we can rotate and have the best defence in the world. We are going to be so solid next season and I cant wait.If we sign him AND Kompany miraculously stays fit we would have the best CB pairing in world football.

I don't think we are being played. City have become experienced in these deals, and will be wary of being stung in that way. Interesting to note that his agent is coming to City, not us going to meet him. No doubt a tour of the CFA, stadium and a meeting with Pep will be on the agenda.
Bonucci is 29, if he ever wants to try a different league now is his last big chance at it. My big concern is that interest from Conte might see him join Chelsea if they are prepared to pay what we are. Hopefully the Pep factor will swing it in our favour though.

The "being used for new contract" thing doesn't add up - Bonucci only signed a 5 year deal last season.
It's nothing like Ramos, who was nearing the end of his contract.

Yes centrally but unless we improve our full backs then we'll still have problems in defence. 43M for a 29 year old ? the football world has taken madness to a new level.

I'm only speculating - and Pep changes his formations all the time but I do wonder if he's planning 3 at the back quite often on the basis he wanted Stones and Laporte - would Pep be planning to play them as his primary CBs in a four? Possibly not - more likely in a three with the more experienced Kompany. Again Bonucci is ready made for a back three formation rather than a four.
