Look lads, I don't mind your club wanting to buy Lescott. But please cut the sanctimonious crap about Everton being unreasonable for either not selling him, or wanting more money for him. The fact is that he signed a contract last season, and until then was happy to be an Everton player. If you are so desperate for him, then offer us an acceptable amount. It doesn't matter that Joleon is a £15m player. We don't want to sell at that price, nor are we legally obliged to sell. Moreover, some of you seem to playing the moral card on this, acting as though Everton are morally obliged to release Joleon to you since you're far richer than us, and can make him wealthy beyond his dreams. Now that's bullshit. Joleon signed his contract at £35k or so a week, knowing full well that it meant he was obliged to honour the contract. Everton didn't trick him into it. He's not some dumb kid, he's 27 years old, and was fully aware what he was doing. Hence, we are fully entitled, both legally and morally, to tell you to get lost, and to tell Joleon to buckle down earn his huge salary.
What City have done is try to unsettle the player, and it's worked. So Moyes has dug his heels in, which he's entitled to do. Obviously, it seems prudent to release Joleon if a suitable offer comes in. But that isn't £18m, which has been turned down. Don't forget, Everton still don't need to sell. Joleon is a professional, and should he remain with Everton he'll realise that he's no option but to settle down again. Plus, don't forget that Joleon is hugely popular within the squad. He won't, at the end of the day, screw his buddies. Moreover, as you know, fans are fickle. It will take a couple of decent performances and a half-assed apology from Joleon to get the fans on side again.
What I'm saying is Joleon is far from completely estranged from the fans and the club. If he stays, things will get back to normal eventually. Moyes knows that, which is why he'll hold out for top dollar.
If you really think he's for you, then get back in there with an offer that Moyes will accept. If you're not willing to that, then quit bleating about it. The onus is on City, the richest club in the world, to either pay through the nose, or find a defender elsewhere.
The ball is most definitely in your court.
