He is able to outsmucle many players when challenging for the ball. His capability to defend only by position or through explosive runs is average.
And many times, he is led to outmuscle an opposition player into the penalty area. Might be an open road for penalties in key games when the opposition forwards are fully aware of this.
As to being a ball player, he is a left footed player. Left footed players are usually more single footed than right footed players. His first controls are sometimes very approximated for a player of that standing, slowing down the team movements.
His long ball distribution is below par.
Here endeth the FCLB lesson - which unfortunately IMO is wrong in important respects, which I have emboldened.

Opinions should not be mistaken for facts.

I have not sought nor received any advice on this matter. I like to think my opinions are factual but recognise I could be wrong about any or all of them. I also believe Lescott is not without his faults but name a footballer who isn't (or wasn't).

A person's first advisor is one's conscience. Glad to hear people dont listen to their conscience on this forum.
On Lescott, my reservations pointed that currently, he is put face to face with situations that could lead to a penalty spot kick.
It is safer for a defender outmuscling his opponent to do so outside the penalty area and if possible out of range for a direct free kick.
Currently, that is not the case.
The good part is that on Saturday, that is Chelsea. If a penalty is conceded, that will be because Drogba dived.
