Lest We Forget

lts not about me. lts about the 232 British Service Personnel that have so far been killed in Afghanistan and another 179 in Iraq. The bottom line is that they are just ordinary ,normal people, like we all are, someone's much loved Son, Father, Brother, Husband...and will be sadly missed. This is the point l really wanted to highlight and by clicking on the links it is possible to read the eulogies written by their families and comrades ,which are very moving and a fitting tribute.

Sure, they have signed on the dotted line and taken the Queens shilling and accept that theirs is a dangerous job and they may be put in harms way whilst doing their duty, it goes with the territory.

But what they don't deserve, is to be needlessly sacrificed and stabbed in the back by a bunch of self-serving ,spineless politicians and faceless bureaucrats who couldn't give a rats arse about them.

l hope this whole wasteful episode is resolved soon before any more families are torn apart.

ln the meantime ,heads down, spirits up...

Agreed.

Lest We Forget.

I was amazed at the children at the school I work in. Just before 11 we brought all the children into the hall and at 11 you could have heard a pin drop. Even the little ones aged 3 stood there silently. My son has always respected the minute silence, but to watch his whole school stand there showing their respects for the fallen brought a tear to my eye. Even after 91 years these men will never be forgot. Lest we forget. We will remember what you all did for this country and we will never forget any of the people who have died fighting for this country.

Thank you Orange-WKD, it is fitting and moving to hear that at least some schools are still teaching our next generation about the sacrifices our forces have made (& are still making) to ensure our freedom

It's been a sad day for me.

My Gran was a Wren in WWII after lying about her age and joining at 16. She died in June. It's been the first Armistice without her. I spent much of my childhood in her house, and later when birds threw me out [I would have done the same]! I don't regret spending much of my day [when I should have been doing business] dealing with silly little cyber bullies who are ignorant of freedom. It's just a shame for them.

I am now the custodian of my Great Grandfather's service medals from WWI. He fought in the trenches and chose never to speak of it again.

I also take pride in my fathers who fought in the Royal Indian Army for the Empire in many wars.

I was watching a C4 news debate earlier. A Sapper of Pakistani descent, who served in Bomb Disposal in both Iraq and Afghanistan, said that we had the best army in the world. Of course we have. He then said that he did not understand what the current war was about. Neither do I.

Nevertheless, all our armed services do a superb job for the Donkeys who cannot even tell us the truth. The oil pipeline from Central Asian through Afghan and then Baluchistan [the Pakistani bit below Afghan]? Building the highway to invade Iran? Or, most laughably of all, that it is a pretext to 'invade' Pakistan? Not just P's nuclear weapons, but China's as well. Who knows?

Anyway, I am praying [because I'm free] for every service man and woman, day in, day out.

God Save the Queen.
