I think the OP makes a valid point that without our history of support in times of adversity we may not have looked as attractive to ADUG. However, it always makes me smile when attending the York away game is held up as some big symbol of loyalty. I went to York and look back on it as a big piss up and a laugh with mates as was the whole of that season. The Pearce days were far harder to bear.

dark days under Pearce or wonderful platform for the future, tough call - either way the footy was overall shite

One of the few seasons I got to see city more than a few times. I think I saw them seven + times and we scored only two goals. The football was shocking. Dark days indeed but part of what made us what we are today.

Hang on a minute, where are the Blue Moon spelling Police ? This thread is hours old and yet no one has ignored the good/bad points made by the OP and simply pointed out the glaring spelling mistake. I was told standards are slipping on BM, now it has been confirmed.

Thank you Hart us old timers appreciate a bit of respect off you whippersnappers every now and again.
Iv done my 53 years thru thick thin and thinner, had my teeth knocked out and my lips scarred for life and done some naughty things myself but never mind once a blue always a blue

Re: Lest we forgett

thanks op but i see it as completely the other way. we are the lucky ones, to be able to watch the blues live, regardless of which division, is an absolute pleasure. when you can be there good and bad its all you can ask for.

to me its the faraway blues that deserve praise, they hang in there watching from afar not being able to influence the game in any way. as i say good or bad we can at least air our thoughts directly at the club and the players.

the point of our support making us attractive to our owners is spot on.

I've been watching City since 1971. I've had 9 good days.

I just want to reach double figures before the Great Fourth Official in the Sky puts my number up.

Absolutely spot on. The games in the third tier were an inconvenience interupting an all day sesh. I don't remember many games from that season.

In 1960 I married a City supporter, my family were all United fans and to some of them I was in a way a traitor. My husbands family were all blues, he had seven uncles so going to the matches was like a mass exodus walking through the streets to Maine road, they lived in Longsight, our children have been brought up blues, so are my grandchildren, so I guess I - in my seventies - are one of the older supporters. I have always loved City, fed up with them at times but my loyalty couldn't have ever wavered. Nowadays, my family on the Red side, courtesy of the internet , e-mail me with banter over the rivalry but they do respect I am a solid blue. I have never regreted being a Blue either. I have seen some pretty bad times but some fabulous ones as well and I am so grateful for the sheikh and his money for injected this into City. The reds talk about their history so much but I have a very long memory, there was a time when ManUnited were bombed out and Mancity let them carry on their matches at Maine road and even walked around with a blanket at half-time collecting money for ManU, something I don't think the red supporters would believe but it is true, they owe us more than we ever owe them.
I am glad for the new youngsters on the Blue side that they are seeing good times and the prospect of even better. As the time is coming that health-wise I can't get to matches anymore then i know the club is in good hands with our younger supporter.
