Let's get behind Savic

Over reaction. He's a decent player, just needs games, unlike kolorov who's plain poor. Get behind him!

looking at the thread title, do you mean let's literally get behind him, in order to cover the gaping holes he leaves in our defence??

I joke of course.

The 35m sub shrugged him off like he was a fly on his shoulder. Not our answer I am afraid. Not trying to sound like slagging him off, but I personally don't feel as if he will ever be up to the standards we now have, and that are now needed in the Premier League. Back up/sub/reserve player, and probably won't be with us for very long to be fair. Will NEVER be a first choice Cb for us, let's face that fact and see him for who he really is. I could be, and hope I am wrong, but don't see much changing.

Carroll was pulling his shirt to begin with, poor positioning from Savic to begin with but watch it again, as soon as he turns the greaseball has hold of Savic's shirt

It wasn't savic's finest moment but he slowed him down enough for Joe to make the play.

As Mancini said he had a tough start but got better, we have to blood the youngsters and if circumstances are as they are why not.

Best of luck to him, he got a nasty cut last match and couldn't wait to get back on, nearly knocked one of our own players over in the rush.

Will come good.

-- Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:46 pm --

As Mancini said he had a tough start but got better, we have to blood the youngsters and if circumstances are as they are why not.

Micah is 5' 11" yet has played centre half for us in the past and looked good, Kolo is 6' 0" and has been a force for Arsenal in the past and has been decent for us as well before his ban and only just recently since coming back... Vidic for United is around the same height as Savic and he still gets considered one of the best in Europe, your theory is rubbish my friend..

The difference of course being that Micah has the power and the spring in his heels to compensate for that lack of inches. As for Vidic, he is over an inch taller than Savic (so not 'around the same height' at all), plus he has the physique to stand his ground and maximise his chances of winning the ball in the air and on the ground. Still if you can remember Savic winning a header against either Carroll or Helgusson, I'll stand to be corrected. Until then, not tall enough, not strong enough, not quick enough, not good enough, and if you think playing him at centre half in any of our remaining games is a good idea then you're clearly as mad as a march hare.

So basically you're saying the lad needs to bulk up??? You could just say that instead of pretty much saying "out of the 12 games you've played the one you were shit in has taught me you are fucking wank and are not worthy to be a City player" remind me how many headers Lescott won against Carroll?? Don't believe in the media hype about Carroll being completely shit as he still causes problems for defenders pretty much like Crouch does, If you watch the City v Liverpool game (3-0) see how much of a nightmare Kompany had defending against Carroll I've not seen him being worked like that all season even against Rooney and Vinnie is our best Centre Back and you're giving a kid stick because he didn't win any headers against Carroll???

I just think you're being unfair is all...

You're certainly right about the bulking up, and of course I know that it is perfectly possible to be a great centre half without having all of the attributes I describe (Carlos Puyol being a case in point). What worries me about Savic is that he's currently lacking on all fronts, and there's more to it than just picking his worst game and judging him on that. Anyone can look half decent if they're not under any pressure. Just look at Scholes last week. A man up, oceans of space and opponents happy to sit back. We all know in reality he's past it though and will get himself sent off against the first decent opponents he faces. This league is full of biff bang merchants and I've seen little to convince me Savic is capable of coping with it, and (like Tal Ben Haim) the rash challenges and errors will continue unabated as long as he can't.
Hope he goes on to prove me wrong, but right now I think if Mancini continues to play him he will be making a grave error. Nedum Onuoha would be my choice, albeit that he's no world beater himself

It's such early days for him, many of our best players took time to settle, it took them more games than Savic has had so far to do so. Regardless, if he is wearing the City shirt he needs every ounce of our support. This may be the defining period of the season.

If Nedum isn't good enough for Sunderland what makes hint good enough for us?? Nedum is just as bad under pressure as Savic.. Why replace a player who's just turned 21 playing for his national side for someone who's 4/5 years older and wasn't even good enough for sunderland??

Sometimes I wonder if people remember what Nedum was like when he played for us?? Micah/Hart/Kompany were all the same age as Savic when they went through a bad spell with us now imagine if we had gotten rid and declared them not good enough at this level.... Savic needs time like any other young player that's been at the club...

He made one genuine mistake on Wednesday at that was the penalty. Carroll had a handfull of his shirt when he turned him.

He is one of the most promising young centre halfs out there so everyone just needs to calm down!

I don't dispute that he needs time, or that he may well improve dramatically, but let him get that experience out on loan. The margin for error in the position we're in, is extremely slim. Unless you've seen something in him that I haven't, I think picking him again carries an unacceptably high level of risk
