Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

We can have 80% possession without looking like scoring, and yet the opposition looks threatening every time they pass the centre circle.
It's baffling, the midfield was non existence last night yet again.
Tell me you weren't surprised that our midfield wasn't going to get overrun when you saw the teamsheet. It was a lower prem side midfield on show last night, simply utter shite with zero creativity on show

Last night was so bad EB:(
It was and I am still disappointed and angry, very angry. I usually get over a defeat within a few hours at most but this has hit me hard. (And everyone else I am sure, sorry to be a bit me, me here) I am trying so hard to keep my faith in Pep but it has been dented.

I have to keep telling myself my overriding mantra... MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD.

I haven't lost faith in John Boy though. ;-) ;-)

It makes you wonder if Pep is fit to be the manager.

We are better than that, Glory Hunters are welcome but should never be heard

Where does last night rank in terms of recent dire City performances? Admittedly its the match most fresh in the memory, but cant recall a match where we were so completely schooled by lesser opposition and didnt look like scoring in a month of sundays. It was just a bleak occasion all round, line up, performance, atmosphere. One to forget.
Could sit along side many a shit show we saw between November and February of last season.

I agree, midfield used to be our strong point, even on Saturday v Newcastle a midfield 3 of foden, Bernardo,Nico was a stupid idea against Bruno, joelinton, tonalli.simply overrun by the physical battle.

I actually don’t think some of them will be hurting and will be quite happy picking up the big money week in and week out .
According to City they do due diligence on each player before buying them. I would hope and expect that would include on the players character including how they react to underperforming. Surely they are paid less for losing games.

Having slept on this, I am no less angry about last night.

The sheer contempt or lack of consideration (take your pick) that was shown to every City supporter, particularly those of who battled the traffic and shelled out to endure that disgraceful no-show jn the freezing cold with that crass team selection is inexcusable.
Cheer up, it's not as if we are playing Real Madrid next...... oh!

Crazy from Pep. If he rotated five of the starters against Newcastle I could maybe see what he was trying to do but 10?

We have Leeds at home at the weekend and we should be able to rest a few players against them - no need for all the changes to be in that one match.

The most worrying thing is that there was not one player who came in that did anything to stake a claim for a starting place.

I really thought we'd be motivated again after thrashing the dippers 3-0.. just for refs against Newcastle and Pep against Leverkusen to destroy the entire momentum.. This was easily the worst performance of the season. And Savinho, pack your bags mate. Soriano, who blocked selling Savinho for 70mil to Spurs this Summer, should never have a job again.

The team selected wasn't a carling Cup Rd 3 team. It was filled with players who are 1dt team semi regulars such as TR, Stones, Ake etc.

Perhaps the vast number of changes was an issue but those players should be capable of a million times better than what they did.

Look back in Anger from 2023 when we won the treble and that's when you recruit two players every year and we wouldn't be in this position of trying championship players and players who are clearly passed there sell by date on a Chumps league night at home which we needed to win to virtually guarantee a top eight spot.
Look around all the leagues players who have left to some of the dross we have on our bench mind blowing and reeks of arrogance within the club.
We are been left behind in the Premier league and never mind Europe compared to Bayern Munich and PSG who look to have the right balance within there squads.
Lack of hunger and motivation, most of this comes from within the player topped up by the manager.
We thought the clear out was nearly finished with the players we purchased over the last year and were the future which is not the case.
Some big decisions January and next summer if we want to remain at the top table and trying to fill the ground with a new stand.
Pep needs to extend his contract or give the role to the next new and exciting young manager with drive and ambition, Irola at Bournemouth could be a option.
Onto Leeds at home which is must win game and hopefully a performance to put a smile on our faces as we approach the December games.
Genuinely interested to know who you believe the championship players and players who are clearly passed there sell by date are?

And fill it with semi-regulars and you won't have the special quality that can produce winning moments.

A team is typically 6-7 squad players and 4-5 squad players. The players are capable of much better when they are part of a functional team whose patterns of play are known. City are not champions any more. We are struggling to make our way back. We are not going to get away with such changes.

I tell myself that Pep has done daft things in the past, suffered for it and then delivered success. Not sure I believe that will be the case this season but, at this stage of the treble season, things were looking grim. Let's smash dirty Leeds on Saturday.

Whilst I can't disagree with a lot of what has been said about some of the players from last night I don't 100% blame them. It is down to the person who decides the team sheet for the match. Whether it was Pep alone or a collective coaching decision I don't know, nor do I care actually. I care about the welfare of the players and their morale. Last night will have kicked some of them where it hurts I am sure.

However no one, manager of supporters, will ever shake me from my natural thoughts and support for MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD.

Sorry, :-) :-) :-(

Maybe pep trusted the players to perform they didn’t now pep knows and those players who been wanting game time can be quiet!

Wasn’t as bad as the Feynoord game last year but it was up there. What was really frustrating was it felt like we could have done so much better with a different team selection. The goals we conceded had a horribly familiar look too.
It was hugely irritating as the consequences will be severe and they are unnecessary.

Being shite and being arrogant but then also shite are two very different things, which is why I think so many of us are furious. And like others, I just woke up and rather than moving on as I always have I’m still annoyed by that team selection.

Pretty sure that he has retired so he probably will not work again. I agree with everything you said btw!
