Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

If he picks the same starting eleven as last night in our Carabao cup game against Brentford you can forget about another Wembley trip.
Savio,Bobb,Reijnders,Marmoush,Khusanov,Ait Nouri,Rico Lewis simply not good enough.
Its no surprise why peps using the same starting eleven in the premier each week.
Our squad is weak.
His players let him down last night although he's not blameless with ten changes. CTID
Agreed. Depth is just nowhere near it needs to be.

The thing is with Pep he does what he wants because he knows no one will say fuck all no matter how shit we are. It’s called credit in the bank.
We have been in decline since Istanbul , Pep’s brain farts are getting more and more frequent & everybody else is signing faster more powerful & athletic players. We will have ups and downs but the relentless winning machine is done under Pep. The lazy holiday camp attitude of our club World Cup showed in Pep’s selection again tonight

Genuinely upsetting? Give over you fanny. We lost an inconsequential game of football.
Don’t know about inconsequential? Maybe in terms of world events, yes. However, for MCFC we’ll know if it was inconsequential at the completion of the league stage of this competition.

Last night was worrying because not one single squad player did anything to justify being anywhere near our starting eleven. Stones we know about and he has enough credit in the bank but age and injuries are taking their toll. Out there was the Italian player of the year and another who was banging in goals for fun in Germany. They both looked totally lost. Sure it's not easy playing in a team with so many changes, but this was the champions league and a chance for fringe players to stake a claim. Every single one of them failed miserably and a few have been around for a while now. A lot just aren't good enough and after watching them for a while now it looks like that will never change. Even incorporated into our first eleven i don't see sny of them having any impact whatsoever.
As soon as we get the chance the majority of them should be moved out asap. We then need to get some absolutely top quality proven replacements in. If we don't we are going to spend a considerable period as also rans, both domestically and in Europe.

Inconsequential???

I hope you’re not eating those words after the next 3 games!!

Madrid (A), Bodo/Glimt (A) on astroturf above the Arctic Circle in January, then Galatasaray (H), which has Leroy Sané winner written all over it!!

Don’t really know what to say. I knew we were a vulnerable team but I thought these kind of performances were a thing of the past. It looked like we time traveled to last season.

Every player looks like they can offer anything to win us the game. It’s not one problem it’s every part of the team.

The lineup was not our first team but I honestly thought that these guys wanted it more. Newcastle bullied the first team after playing every international minute. They didn’t get any breaks before either. They’d be needed for the league. I disagree that it’s Pep’s fault. Everyone should contribute to this team. It can’t be Haaland or bust it’s nonsense. Yes Haaland should’ve scored but it’s December and nobody has more than ONE league goal. Estavio is 18 with 11 g/a but we must wait years and years for Savio and Bobb

It’s clear this team is still very far from what we’re used to. Brighton Aston Villa Newcastle Leverkusen. Those losses all have similarities.
A side that’s easy to play through and even easier to stifle and frustrate.

I think players like Reinjders Bobb Savio are lost causes. Ait Nouri is lost, Khusonov can’t get 90 mins, Trafford thankfully isn’t out No.1, tactical issues like playing Doku on the touchline for 30 mins when everyone and their dog knows he’s way better centrally and it showed in the last few mins he became our best player as usual when nobody has ideas. The subs of Haaland Cherki too late yet again. There was no RHS so what was The RW supposed to do ? Where was his support. Nico G against the world because Reinjders thinks he’s a 10.

I just don’t know. What we throw another 200 mil in midfielders alone. Bernardo and Kova leaving soon and Rodri’s body looks finished unfortunately? Cash in on Savio, Sell Bobb with a buy back, let Ake go who looks like the game has left him ?

idk what to say. It’s not like we’re expecting these players of be prime Robben or Iniesta just a goal a month, good work ethic and some passion during big games.

Can’t believe now we have to go to Madrid and fight for it.

Watching Savio tonight was worse than Sterling and Gabby ever did. It’s a shame. He looks so defeated. Tripping over himself, missing every last, not beating anyone.

With my kid in Norway (Svalbard) for the semester, we’ve watched some Norwegian football on streams together and underestimating Bodo/Glimt at their place is a mistake. They are quick on the ball and like to press. They can shoot from distance. Their fans are, naturally, rabid. At home in CL, they drew with Spurs, Juve needed a stoppage time goal to beat them today and Monaco only beat them 0-1 and BD was in the ascendancy when they went down to ten. They will have nothing to lose — it will be their Cup Final, the most famous win in their history if they can get it. And they, to your point, are used to playing on turf. Of course, we also employ their nation’s best footballer.

And the Sane winner probably comes from a Mr. Whippy assist.

Zero room for error in those three.

Just baffling that we named a side you'd see in an early league cup tie for a CL game. Especially given we play Leeds this weekend.

He won't be able to, Marmoush and Ait Nouri will be at the Africa Cup of Nations

Not so inconsequential. Lose at RM next and we will be out of top 8 with only 2 to play. Bit of a cock up putting out that team tonight. Yes we will qualify but important to get top 8.

Agreed. Got to win all your home games in the CL groups.

We have two away days now against Real Madrid and Bodo Glimt in northern Norway during the middle of the winter on a plastic pitch.

What many are missing as well is we have to play 2 extra games in February if we miss out on the top 8. Of which could have been avoided with a win tonight.

We already have to play Spurs away, Liverpool away, Newcastle at home and Leeds away during that month, not forgetting the potential League Cup final if we make it.

According to Opta's calculations, 16 points will be enough to finish in the top 8. We have 10 points and 3 matches left (in Madrid, in Bodø, and at home with Galatasaray). As for the top 24, we're normally already qualified since we only need 9 or 10 points this season, again according to Opta's calculations.
