Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Our squad strength used to be our main strength. When we won 4 in a row. Now the older players are finding it harder. Rijanders has been a let down. Marmoush not match fit. You could say that about a lot of the players. This should be a warning sign. As these players will be needed to play during the next 2 months. As no way we will stay with the same 11 as injuries and bookings will count up. Have we got someone under the radar to come up into squad like Nico O Reilly last year if there ready we just need to be thinking long term as some might not be here next season.

22 names we've all heard of/seen many times last night (apart from that back up keeper), and not one promising youngster being handed a bench slot.
Some agents will be getting itchy feet this morning, for their young clients

For a few years, Pep has been saying that he doesn't like a big squad. Proof last night that it is bloated. Any progress from the youth ranks is being stifled by players that aren't either good enough or past their usefulness to the club. Some big squad trimming due in January.

Dear Mr. Guardiola,
You should consult the current edition of Psycho Quarterly (Ed. D. Trump) and read the article ‘Brainfarts and How to Deal with Them’ by Robert Kennedy Jnr.
Having a psychotic episode is like calling a barm a muffin; nothing to be ashamed of, quite normal but best avoided where possible.

That was a waste of time and money and I'm still defrosting . Not helped by the fact that I got to the ground far earlier than normal, after a stressful day, and stumbled across the razzmatazz of the team arrival. They should have all stayed in the bus and we could have all got home to the warm. What on earth was Pep thinking ?

To answer your question - he wasn't thinking rationally, practically, sensibly, or other adjectives.

We expected the worst after seeing the starting XI, they were somehow even worse than we expected.

Awful result, awful performance, half the squad can't be relied upon.
Imagine trying to explain that line up to a 14 year old season ticket holder out in that weather watching that total casserole of dogshit fucking pep again pepping around when there’s no need !

Shit, cold, frustrating, players just falling over

Like the good old days

Had we taken our chances - after 4 mins, the reindeer’s effort and then 2 Harlan’s chances we would have won 4-2. It’s all about taking your chances ( again)
Brilliant!! And there was me thinking I'd paid to watch a shite performance in freezing conditions. It was 0°C when I got back to the car and I'd have felt so much warmer just by concentrating on those missed chances.

If he picks the same starting eleven as last night in our Carabao cup game against Brentford you can forget about another Wembley trip.
Savio,Bobb,Reijnders,Marmoush,Khusanov,Ait Nouri,Rico Lewis simply not good enough.
Its no surprise why peps using the same starting eleven in the premier each week.
Our squad is weak.
His players let him down last night although he's not blameless with ten changes. CTID
Surely as the greatest manager of all time he can get a tune out of them though?

We have been in decline since Istanbul , Pep’s brain farts are getting more and more frequent & everybody else is signing faster more powerful & athletic players. We will have ups and downs but the relentless winning machine is done under Pep. The lazy holiday camp attitude of our club World Cup showed in Pep’s selection again tonight
A number of performances in the following season demonstrated that (especially the pathetic mess at Wembley) but four in a row papered over the cracks and we recruited several players who just weren't good enough to replace the ones we've lost.

That only applies if we have promising youngsters available. I don't watch whatever we call the reserves these days so I just don't know. None of those sent out on loan seem to be at Premier League clubs.

Peps post match press conference. He admits all the changes were too much and he got it wrong. He explains why he did it and you can understand his reasons. Personally i think he underestimated our opponents, especially as they had a lot of injuries. He sees all our players in training, they looked good and let's be honest the majority are proven international players for their countries. Even the younger players are getting in their respective countries squads. He is also quite right we can't play the same eleven players all season. That's now become a worry because as we've seen their understudies are just not up to the task of being the main men when called upon.

It's a weird aspect of life that even the greatest person at their job, as Pep obviously is, can sometimes make a catastrophic mistake that shocks everybody. Sometimes even football fans can see and predict that the decision he has made is going to backfire badly, as many of us did last night pre match. Are we better managers or know more than Pep Guardiola? Of course not and absolutely nobody is remotely suggesting that. What we are though are fans who have watched thousands of games, probably played a bit of football in our time and learnt a little bit along the way. Even though we are emotionally involved we are not right at the coal face like Pep so we can look at decisions a bit more objectively. We looked at last nights and thought it was going to be a clusterfuck and sadly we were right. Its a pity somebody close to Pep didn't pull him to.one side and say the same to him before he submitted the team sheet. Maybe they did and he went ahead and did it anyway. Who knows, what we do know is it failed spectacularly. We all wish we were the ones proven wrong and we were sitting here high up in the champions league table and three points better off. Sadly that didn't happen. Anyway here's Peps post match press conference.

We needed to give them players game time and some point otherwise they get more and more rusty.

Hopefully it’s a rocket up the ass for a few

Zero room for error in those three.

Just baffling that we named a side you'd see in an early league cup tie for a CL game. Especially given we play Leeds this weekend.
Arrogant, too smart for his own good, stupidity. That’s it, in a nutshell!

And, I’d be interested to know what Pep 2 & Kolo had to say about it when told the line up?!

Most of that 11 are average to shite . It’s no wonder we lost.

Recruitment has been diabolical since we signed Haaland with the exception of Donna.

State of last night’s line up.

Khusanov - I’ve not seen anything in him yet to make me think he is going to be a great player and the fact he can only get minutes as a right back when he is a Centre Back sums it up.

Stones - past it and injury prone
Ake - past it and injury prone mark 2
Nouri - oh dear, what a signing he is looking.

Reijnders - Mr Smiley. Two decent games so far. All the rest poor.
Lewis - must pinch himself every day playing at this level.

Savinho - lottery rollover winner. Absolute shite. Very unlikeable and a total fanny.

Bobb - joint ticket holder with Savinho

Marmoush - rumours he earns almost £300k a week! That just can’t be true, can it ?

Gonzalez/Trafford - I’ve left out as the jury is still out even though they were equally as shit last night.

Picking a league cup side against the 2nd best team in Germany was a bit stupid
exactly where i would be coming from, do it when qualification is assured not before
smacked of total arrogance from pep, all on you my friend
and he knew it the way he was dancing around on the touchline
at least he knows now who ain't good enough, but strangely not savinho who somehow managed to stay on the whole game, i'm not sure he'd get in a joe royle team he was that bad!!!!
