Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Its all been said, wont repeat, also hammers home how shite recruitment has been for a few years now.

Pretty much every player that has come in isnt as good as the one they replaced and weve ended up with a very average squad.
The fact that its an average league means we will probably scrape top 4 again.

The Jan 25 window was one of utter panic, only one in Nico looks like he might be ok , but the juries out with him.
But i understand that panic at that time.

Was so hopeful for the summer window but we have ended up with a LB who cant get a game over a 19 year old, a midfielder in rjeinders who looks mentally weak and soft and chirki who shows very rare glimpses of talent.

We now have a situation that despite a rebuild having taken place, we still need a rebuild!!

It was awesome whilst it lasted, but we are some years away from challenging again and if arsenal dont win it this year then they never will!!!

A typical Pep brainfart/overthink. Yes; I get the need for occasional rotation, and giving the big hitters a rest. 100%. But why pretty much the whole team? We don't play again until saturday. 4 days away. That's a luxury in the modern crowded calendar. He could easily have started strong last night, ideally get a couple of goals ahead by HT, then start subbing. Did any of them that came in last night do anything re staking a claim for a place in the XI for next weekend,on the basis of last night's performance?

Too many changes!!!! Yeh against Leverkusen, but what about loosing to Newcastle, Tottenham..etc
Too many changes might weaken the team but it is not the only reason, the reality is that we lacked strong talented characters in every line. We are missing players like KDB, David Silva and Yaya. Yesterday in the first half, we looked helpless; we have neither solutions, nor courage, nor even the desire.

Well it's made my decision easier to not attend another champs league game unless the Galatasaray game drops below 30 quid. Will be another freezing night when that comes round but the game might bear some relevance at least. We'll lose in Madrid and probably at Glimt on an artificial pitch in January in the arctic circle hmmmmm. That could leave us needing to beat Galatasaray to qualify in the top 18 or whatever it is

That was a waste of time and money and I'm still defrosting . Not helped by the fact that I got to the ground far earlier than normal, after a stressful day, and stumbled across the razzmatazz of the team arrival. They should have all stayed in the bus and we could have all got home to the warm. What on earth was Pep thinking ?
It was a chilly one last night. Really poor showing from the whole playing/ coaching staff who were involved in that absolute cluster of a selection, performance and everything else associated with it. Utter bobbins.

Exactly this. Rotate some but not all of the team - gives us a greater chance of a cohesive performance and still gets minutes for the squad.

Most of that 11 are average to shite . It’s no wonder we lost.

Recruitment has been diabolical since we signed Haaland with the exception of Donna.

State of last night’s line up.

Khusanov - I’ve not seen anything in him yet to make me think he is going to be a great player and the fact he can only get minutes as a right back when he is a Centre Back sums it up.

Stones - past it and injury prone
Ake - past it and injury prone mark 2
Nouri - oh dear, what a signing he is looking.

Reijnders - Mr Smiley. Two decent games so far. All the rest poor.
Lewis - must pinch himself every day playing at this level.

Savinho - lottery rollover winner. Absolute shite. Very unlikeable and a total fanny.

Bobb - joint ticket holder with Savinho

Marmoush - rumours he earns almost £300k a week! That just can’t be true, can it ?

Gonzalez/Trafford - I’ve left out as the jury is still out even though they were equally as shit last night.

A spot on assesment. Thank God we actually signed Donnarumma as Trafford looks like a youth player promoted into the first team due to an injury crisis. At only 22 he may come good but atm I'd say he is a good four years away from being ready to be number one here.

What was he thinking now it’s the most likely scenario of the play offs,we won’t get anything at Madrid,Bodo Glimt ( is it spelt) on artificial pitch freezing conditions can’t see us getting anything there, leaves us with Galatasaray at home,so basically it is the playoffs then deary me what a complete fuck up ..pep is beginning to remind me of wenger in his last couple of years at Arsenal.

lets hear you underreaction then?
smart move from pep to play a league cup team to get beat at home against a useful german team so we can play an extra couple of games in feb perhaps?
No denying it, terrible selection. Quick scan on here this morning and everyones fucking shit! and Pep needs to go

We have recruited pretty poorly but last night hangs on Pep’s crazy decision to make so many changes including the entire back 5. Why not do that against Leeds at home? IF he felt the need to do it at all.

First visit to a game for a while and when I heard the team I nearly turned the car round.

An experiment that went badly wrong in respect of the result on the night, but maybe Pep learned a lot about certain players. Who knows.

Until they scored I thought we played fairly well in terms of keeping possession but struggled to create any real chances. TR should have put his foot through a couple. They could have scored before they did. Two counter attacks that exposed a team clearly not used to playing together. Many players coming in having not played for a while were rusty too.

Subs could have salvaged it, but no real urgency. Savinho is an awful player.

Overall a bizarre night. No idea why Pep thought this was the fixture to make so many changes. In reality the game was lost before kick off.

Our first team is probably two players short of being very very good. Beyond that the squad is pretty average compared to previous years.
