Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Learnt a lot about some players last night.

Imagine Bobb without the Newcastle goal? Shite. Sell him.

Why was Lewis starting the press in the first half? Nothing in midfield. Shite. Sell him.

Seen milk turn quicker than Reijnders.

"Savinho" (not a real name, by the way) gives me fond memories of Bony. Beyond shite. Running out of words to describe him. Ship to the Falklands.

We have a good spine Donnarumma, Dias , Nico G and Haaland is a very good spine. It’s just the pieces around it I won’t include Nico in that as he’s been quality at left back.

The rest of them are either inconsistent or levels below. I’ll include Phil in that can show moments of brilliance but then become invisible in some games. Cherki as well, still new but shows glimpses of brilliance then can let a game go by him.

The best City teams in the past had an amazing spine and the perfect pieces to compliment that spine. It’s why we were so dominant had goals and assists come from everywhere.

Now we are the Erling Haaland team. Reminds me of Spurs with Harry Kane. Decent spine but the pieces around don’t work / fit.

Recruitment has been more towards young high potential players rather than players that have proven it at the highest level.

I might be wrong but I don’t think Viana and Pep work in the long run at Sporting Viana signed the next young high potential players

where I think there was a interview where Pep said he does prefers more polished players think it was before a cup final, in his team also the squads too big and Pep likes a small squad.

Recruitment has been bad maybe because we’ve got two recruitment philosophies butting against each other. The January links so far feel more Pep Semenyo is in that Mahrez mold he’s consistent at providing goals and assists at Bournemouth similar to Mahrez at Leicester

So after everything pep has done how long will you give him!?

Do you really think a new manager will improve or will improve our chance of winning the league win trophies!?

This talk seems mad from entitled fans or supposed Man City fans wanting the best manager ever gone!
Pep is a great coach, but his general management skills seem suspect.

Like Big Mal had Joe Mercer to keep his feet on the ground, Clough had Taylor etc who keeps Pep's feet on the ground? Last night was an exercise in needless destruction, a real moral sapper for everyone at the club, especially those souls who made the time, effort and money to be there. Win and we were virtually through to the last sixteen, everyone gets a boost, plenty of opportunities for experiments in the final games. We have Leeds on Saturday who are modest opposition to say the least, and at home. Pep gonna Pep and it concerns me that he seems answerable to no one.

Pep is a legend and always will be, but at some point, soon, he will need replacing.

You mean the Malvinas.

'City are sh't. Sell the lot.'

2 days of my life, £65 in train fares, against one of the worst teams we played so far, and we put in that performance, then we have Marmoush waving his arms at the fans to get THEM going.

I won't be home until about 4pm tomorrow, I'm fuming at Pep for that team, and most of the players who started, I'll give a pass to James Trafford, John Stones, Khusanov, and Nico G who started, and most of the subs as it wasn't their fault.

Has to be the worst performance under Pep.
Sympathies with you mate.

I get your point, but there is a phrase I once heard that sums it up for me.

"When a few students fail, they need to try harder, but when the whole class fails, the teacher needs to reassess their methods."

And I thought we were being more direct starting to play slightly differently but seems possession is still how we want to play! why on the break we stop in the halfway line pass back to keep possession! I want when we on a break to keep going have a shot or if wide look up see if anyone is busting a gut to get in the middle to cross the ball!

Still pissed off with last nights selection and performance, we needed the 3 points for a possible top 8 position, thus avoiding another couple of qualifying games.

One thing that has bothered me for a while is the lack of game time for certain players. Whatever happened to the central league ( reserve league ) players who were on the edge of the first team or returning from injury would get vital minutes in their legs, preparing them for first team action.

Last night we threw players in at the deep end who were clearly not match ready, they may show glimpses on the training ground, but they are not at the required level, the drop off is alarming, the squad doesn't have the quality we all hoped and wished for.

Re the topic of players waving their arms to get the crowd going: Somebody commented earlier that they had taken a photo of some seat occupiers watching either other games on their phones or just scrolling down on them. A poster criticised him for doing so and suggested he should be watching the match. I would suggest to the chap who took the photo he forwards to the Club with a memo telling them that this is what the Club is becoming. A tourist stop off point rather than a fan based club.

Fuming.

- Why the fuck does Donnarumma need rest?
- Infact, if we have to change 10 players this early into the season because they’re tired then alarm bells are ringing.
- Nico G holding the midfield on his own, shades of how we ran Rodri into the ground.
- The result has potentially sabotaged our season and especially the remaining CL games.
- So disappointed in our wingers. I’d rather watch Sterling miss chance after chance than this.
I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle. It's not that the first team players need rest, it's that the back ups need game time.

Make your mind up, is pep not up to it or is the recruitment no good.

How morons like you can claim that pep has “lost it” whilst acknowledging the level of player available isn’t good enough makes no sense.

Team selection last night is a separate issue and a strange one as you would have thought go for the win last night and perhaps rest when can further on and potentially avoid another round.
Did I say Pep has "lost it"? No.

Feel free anytime to call me a moron to my face though and see how it ends for you...No need for remarks like that you clown.

I'm pretty sure Pep would be involved in the recruitment of players and not just all down to Hugo Viana or Txiki beforehand.
