I would go for this with only 2 days rest before Madrid, hopefully with Bobb coming in off the bench:

_________ Ortega
Nunes Khusanov Reis Lewis
_ O'Reilly/Gundogan _ Nico
Savinho _ McAtee _ Grealish
________ Marmoush

Then hopefully for Madrid:

_________ Ederson
Akanji Dias Stones Gvardiol
______ Kovacic Nico
Bernardo __ KDB __ Foden
_________ Haaland

Savinho doesn't deserve to play in either game :)

I think Pep has to give Gonzalez and Khusanov an hour against Orient if he plans to play them against Real Madrid. I think if Dias is fit for Real Madrid then City will move Akanji to right back for that game.

Our entire season is being defined by injury and fitness.

Nico probably needs to start against Real Madrid, so he needs to get some minutes here, but those minutes will be of limited value if he goes into the Madrid game without having played with the rest of that starting XI anyway. So I think we’ll go a bit stronger than most expect.

Ederson/Ortega
Lewis
Khusanov/Reis 45 mins each
Stones
Gvardiol
Nico Gonzalez
Kovacic (De Bruyne to come on)
Foden (Bernardo to come on)
Savinho
Grealish
Mubama

You really think Stones will be anywhere near the line up on Sat? lol.

I think we'll rotate heavily with one eye on Madrid.

Ortega
Lewis
Khusanov
Reis
O'Reilly
Gundogan
Gonzalez
McAtee
Grealish
Bobb
Marmoush

Would love to see this team but can't see Bobb starting after such a long injury. Think it's more likely to be De Bruyne behind Marmoush with McAtee wide.

Reis needs to play 90mins. So does Khusanov. Both will likely not play vs Madrid anyway. They need as many minutes as they can get. Both are miles above the level of Leyton Orient, so they will be fine.

Have we re submitted our new panel for CL yet?
I'm guessing Reis is not on it so he should pay against L.Orient

I don't think either of them need 90 minutes if they're not going to play against Madrid. Looking at our fixture list up to March 8 I don't actually know when they're going to get a chance to play. To me it's more important to make sure as many people as possible on the pitch on Tuesday night have got some experience playing together.

Dias won't be fit and Akanji absolutely shouldn't be starting, he looks knackered and is making costly mistakes very frequently as a result. Ake probably not fit to start either I assume.

I understand this perspective, but I just see it from a different angle. You are right in saying our defenders are either not fit, not fully fit, or tired, which is exactly why I wouldn't have someone likes Stones anywhere near the pitch on Saturday. We just can't afford to lose him as well in light of our current fitness struggles. He is fragile, so why risk him? I get him and Dias haven't played together almost at all in forever, but we have too many crucial players out to risk him. Of course, the fact we have some tough fixtures ahead means, in my mind, that we should rest the more experienced players and give some youngsters a run out.
