Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

To those who have watched him a few times, is he particularly good in the air?

Not in a Sibierski way (won lots of headers but could not direct it towards the goal with any power or accuracy).

Honestly hard to say as the 18s side barely whipped in crosses last season. They play on the ground a lot. If I was to guess, I'd presume he is given his physicality. Aggression does tend to help when it comes to aerial prowess!

I think he is out and out quick tbh. Well I guess it depends on what that definition means, but if I was listing his attributes pace would be one of them. And he will certainly get sharper too. Look at how many times last night he gave a CB a two yard headstart and still got there. He doesn't play on the shoulder of the defender because he doesn't need to. 1.23 is a great example. Easily beats the CB for pace.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I don't know how fast Jack Simpson is though to put it in reference. The great thing is that when you're that big and strong, you don't need to be as fast because you'll win any shoulder to shoulder battle, and you can brush off contact that slows down smaller players and get away.

How tall is he?

Ha, nor do I tbf, but I don't think this league is particularly blessed with pacy centre-backs! In terms of height, looks 6 foot or so?

He seems as tall, or maybe taller, than basically everyone of our outfield players here! Walker, KDB, Harwood-Bellis, Torres in shot. Maybe 6'1? Unit either way.

Yep, Sancho would have been the most well paid 17 year old in the game if he accepted our offer. If anything he took a pay cut to go to Dortmund.

But he was guaranteed first team football and earns £190K a week now. He’s an England International too. His argument might well be none of that would have happened had he stayed with City.

To be fair to him he’s proven he was more than ready for the first team even at the age he left.

I highly doubt Sancho would have moved to Germany and effectively taken a pay cut with no guarantees. It wouldn’t surprise me if he also got a significant signing on fee too.

He probably got a pay rise going to Dortmund, just less of a pay rise than he was in line for at City.

That’s still giving up money. If it were you or I we would stay put I guess!
I don’t know many players who would move abroad and accept less money. Even if that were somehow true it would be a good bet he wouldn’t be on £190K a week with us had he stayed. BD pay good money quickly and make it back tenfold when they sell on.

It’s worked out well for him and good luck to him.
City did nothing wrong though imo with regards to bringing him on as a player. We had high hopes for him and he’d be a first team regular now without doubt. We wanted him to be a little more patient and he decided otherwise as was his right I suppose.
I’m not sure he was first team ready or not when he left, certainly not a week in week out in the league kind of ready.
Shame, but shit happens.

He certainly wouldn't have got guaranteed first team football here which was the major sticking point (presumably). He and his agents both would have got a big pay day moving but it's worked out for him so good luck to the lad. Surely we can stop going over old ground now, it's 3 years since he left.

He spent 6 months with their reserves/youth side before he was ready.

In every physical challenge he came off best and he could be a surprise sub when we are struggling to break down a packed defence. He is not intimadated by anyone !!

Would be great to see him get some minutes. Doesn’t matter that he’s 17, I think he’s good enough now to get some minutes

We'll probably go mostly false 9 which is where we'll miss Bernardo (much prefer a front 3 of Raz-Foden-Bernardo than Mahrez) but Delap should still feet some mins, likely as a sub.

I think this makes Torres that much more important too tbf. He'll need to adapt quickly given our injuries rather than working him in slowly.

Wonder if this is Palmer's chance also to get some mins until the international break anyway.

He reminds me of dzeko. We have been crying out for a different option up front for a while now. Give him a chance pep.

Since Sergio & Jesus are injured, Delap should start every game until he prove himself or show that he isn't ready this season.
