Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

Yet Sheffield United paid Brewster

Yet Sheffield Utd paid £23m for Rhian Brewster

And they have regretted it, as he wasn't worth that

Extended his contract and then a two-year loan deal for me if possible, lessens the risk for the loaning club and a greater incentive for them to use him

Blackburn seems a good shout, Harwood-Beilles is doing great there

They are likely going to lose Armstrong and Elliot (unless they renew his loan) this summer so need a new striker and Right winger, so I think we could form a partnership and give them THB, Delap and Palmer

The main team needs to stay sharp but there is an opportunity for some key EDS talents to get some game time: Delap, Bernabe, Palmer, Lavia, and McAtee would all be in my eyeline.

I don't think Pep's going to dish out token appearances with a CL final on the horizon.
He's definitely going to prioritize managing minutes and making sure the team is fit for the final...

But I think there is stil definitely a way to get Delap or Palmer some 20 or so minutes in the next few games.

For example, if we go full strength against Newcastle and we are winning comfortably by the 65th minute, I can see them getting some minutes, because the others will likely start the game after against Brighton.

Yeah I'm not ruling Delap out getting any minutes whatsoever. But it'll at absolute best be scraps like what Foden and Diaz got at the end of 17/18; 2-10 minutes here and there if the game's comfortable. But then we've seen how stingy Pep is with subs in the league this season.

I was ruling out the idea the academy kids will prominently feature in any game. I actually think it may have happened if we'd not been in the CL though.

Hard to have a good idea on how far from the first team he is. But great stats. Not sure if his strength is why he stands out for his age. Only seen him play once and looked a bit of a bull in a China shop. Fantasy on here clearly watches the youth team a hit and seems to think he nowhere near ready though. Be interesting to see over the next couple of years. Haaland or Ashley ward??

There are aspects of his game that make you think he can be brilliant, but obviously there are other areas that need the extra work.He is a strong lad,and he knows and uses that,it would be very interesting to see him in the Championship, and up against 13/14 stone centre backs that are equally aggressive,i think that should be his next move and test.
I guess it largely depends on which clubs are interested and can offer game time, and also how we progress with signing a striker.....because,if we don't,he might quickly find that test is here.

I definitely don't see him being content with another season in the EDS.

Watched him a few times and it apears to be men against boys when he plays he brushes opposing players away with ease and he now needs a challenge , playing regularly in a decent Championship team against experienced pro's will be far more benefit than another twelve months playing agaisnt kids or hoping in vain for a ten minutes cameo appearannce in cup game.
Loads of potential and he appears to have a brilliant attitude , if he can bag 20 goals in a Championship side next season he will be able to come back and give Pep a decision to make , got real high hopes for him ...........but i did for Daniel Sturrdige :(

Millwall, Cardiff and Middlesbrough all wanting him this season coming. Would be a good loan for him in the Championship, he needs to be playing for a 1st team now. Sink or swim time.

A loan is way better than the very limited playing time,at best,he will get here.
Get him out there, see if he has genuinely got what it takes, see if can bully seasoned centre halves the way he does his peers, see if he can handle the pace etc.

Wouldn't say it's sink or swim time, he's only 18. Would love to see him playing first team football though

If we do end up buying Kane, then Delap is a perfect understudy to him.

Going on loan is great in theory, but I'm always of the mind that you do that with your "lesser" talented players, any player who thr club truly wants to integrate, it's better off bringing them in for a year and see how it goes.

He's young enough that it's worth it for both him and City to see how he carries on, if he's not ready, it's not a waste of a year, he would have still gotten alot out of it, and you can then loan him out.

Chelsea blow that theory out of the water.

Exactly! You are right that Delap is a perfect understudy to Harry Kane. He is also very talented so bringing him out on loan might affect it. It’s definitely right to keep him for a year and see how it goes. He might become like Phil Foden who had an incredible season after Guardiola gave him some Game time. He could also prosper if he gets time.
