Funnily enough yesterday I started watching a Czech TV series that seemed familiar and after checking Wiki it was apparently heavily based on Life on Mars. Quite interesting as when he goes back in time, it's to the communist era.I'm rewatching Life on Mars at the moment and have just discovered during episode 5 that Gene Hunt is in fact a City fan.

I think series 2 was finished off in just about the best way I'd ever seen a series end.One of the very very best tv series of the last 20 years.
Was gutted recently as the original writers have written a third series, had the main actors ready to sign up for it, but couldn’t get funding to film it.
I doubt the modern BBC would touch it nowadays due to its humour but was very surprised somebody hasn’t taken it up.
Damn shame.
