Life without alcohol

I gave up for 5 years (terrible hangover even on one drink). I soon got used to it but lad’s nights out could be dull. I started again in my mid thirties and haven’t had a hangover in 30 years since. I’ve no idea why it happened but happy days, it did.

I’ve tried and have successful periods but I’ll always have the tendency to get leathered and not be able to stop

I only drink beer. No spirits or ciders.
Spirits unfortunately are my weakness , I’ve cut whisky out of weekend routine , broke a couple of ribs and started coughing up blood last year and no idea how I’d done it
Still have the occasional vodka though i.e last night and end up losing a days pay

I packed it in 6 years ago next month and it's one of the best choices I've made.
How did you go about giving up ?
I’d love to never have a drink again but I don’t think that’ll ever happen , moderation is the key but it’s getting to that point of having enough and stopping instead of carrying on

I have seen to many good people suffer with the drink, fortunately I am a lightweight and can't face a drop after a good night out.

My brother is up visiting and we have just need discussing this as he lost his partner due to drink when she was in her early 40’s. Devastating for everyone to see her drink herself to death.

I enjoy a drink but after a good night out I’m rough and won’t touch it again for weeks, sometimes months and I’m happy with that.
