My lad lives near Hollingworth Lake. Said the place has about 30 emergency services present. Light aircraft has come down, reportedly with two people on board.

I've just looked on flight radar and there was a cessna doing laps in the area with it's altitude all over the shop then it disappears.
Then there has been a coastal helicopter going over the area but that has since departed the scene.

Hope the two people on board are ok.

Absolutely. The MEN have put a photo of a Cessna.

What always amazes me is whenever something a bit unusual happens the over the top response from the emergency services. I thought we had a shortage yet I have just seen the ITV news and there are 6 fire engines and a load of police cars,a helicopter, ambulances etc. Is it really necessary or do they all just go for a nosey. Surely some could be stood down and returned to base. The small aircraft has hit a hill with absolutely no danger to the public.

it’s stuck on electricity pylon reckon that’s why there’s a few fire engines.

No it hasn’t.

Precaution. Could have been casualties on the floor. Not every day a plane comes down into a little place like that.

There was someone on Facebook who said at one point there was 6 choppers hovering over, which I thought was a bit OTT (if true)

Yes but the response is to (a) treat the yonners who've gone into shock on seeing a flying machine and (b) stop them burning people as witches.

That’s interesting. A yonner, to me, is someone from Oldham. I went to a secondary school in Oldham and that’s where I learned what a yonner was.

"Up on yon hill" I was told, so includes Oldham.
Sounds reeght. One or t'other. Anyone from outside the M60 ring road (with the odd exceptions like Wythenshawe, Sale..) is a yonner to me.
Back on topic..I hope they're ok. Looks a bit bad, though.
Did the plane have a parachute?

On Facebook there is a comment from a farmer who said there is a large parachute on a pilon, and one of the passengers is said to have used it. Early yet though to know what’s accurate.

Up near where I am in Littleborough this, as you can probably imagine, our local Facebook group has been going off all day.
How gutted would you be though. You're on a plane that's going to crash, 'but never mind I've got a parachute I'm saved'. You jump out and promptly hit an electricity pylon. Proper Final Destination stuff that.

On the latest film there was at least 11 fire engines parked up on the mobile phone footage. You kind of emphasise my point when you say not everyday a plane comes down in a little place like that. They are there for interest not for need. Ironically on the 1.30pm ITV news the Police were urging onlookers to stay away from the scene. I am surprised they didn’t close the M62 as a precaution. Just a bit over the top as often happens when something different happens was my point.

They have to be sure for sure. I remember that light aircraft that crashed in Southern Cemetery back in the 70s and the emergency services recovered thousands of bodies there.
