Like Heights?

At a push i would have gone to the bit where he is climbing inside and clipped on, byt when he went outside, nah, not a prayer would you get me doing that. The bit at the top with those thin metal pegs is rediculous. it would not take many years for those to start corroding, then snap, away you would go.

F*CK THAT!
my palms are sweating just watching it.
i especially like how he "secures" himself for a rest by clipping on to a tent peg where there is totally no chance of the clip coming off the end.

"if a storm comes there is no quick way down"
i beg to differ

My palms are sweaty too, I felt ill then. There isn't any amount of money in the world which would make me do that, and I mean that 100%. The only way i'd do that would be if some maniac kidnapped my kids and told me I had to do it to get them back.

Was he unsupported as he climbed the top on those little rungs? Imagine the wind force up there too? No, fuck that.

Fook me, when I used to do signs climbing up a fucking two level ladder unsupported was hard enough i was shitting it all the way! Need to wipe the sweat off my hands and feet now.

That's completely safe. As climber's say, the gear is bombproof. He is tied to a rope which he anchors at regular intervals, so the furthest he could fall would be a few metres - not that any averagely competent climber is going to fall off that.

around 25ft is generally considerd as 'splat height', so you can go as far above that as you like and it makes no difference.

It's little wonder your confused when you think you hear stories about '70's racism Mammutly, after the post above you obviously view/hear whatever you personally want to.

What that Vid did'nt accurately highlight was the wind and it's effects. I did some work on the tower over in Louth in the '80's (at the time the tallest steel structure in europe) and the observation room was set up so that the Klaxons were triggered when the room itself went 7ft out of centre (imagine the room your in having 14ft's worth of travel...only your at 1200ft). Getting down a 1200ft one man ladder (lively) with spanners hitting your swede keeps you fit/alert.

The bit near the end, where he gets to the top, and lets go to attach the hook, made me feel all funny inside. Infact the whole video did, but that was the worst.

Imagine if it begins to pour down with rain, and it starts getting slippy, or if you get cramp. Scary thought.

i thought i was scared of heights, but that is a different level. he is either very stupid or very poor

You are desperately confusing different issues.

For the record, I have climbed all over Europe and many, many times had thousands of feet of space beneath my feet. I've often done so with much less secure protection than the guy in the video obviously has and occasionally with vitually none at all.

I don't doubt that high winds are a hazard when climbing towers and gear blowing around is certainly part of that. But again, I was commenting on the video and in that the wind is not excessive.

I've never climbed up or down a 1200 foot ladder, but agree that it would keep you fit and alert!

I was alright with the climbing bit. In the mob I used to go up to do mainty on the aerials and dishes without worrying about it cos there was always a 'nest' at the top so you felt secure but when that guy perches on the top and clags to summat that looks like the wind might blow it off if its a bit rusty that made me feel a bit sick tbh.

Wonder how often they fall off ~:-o
