Lineker leaving MOTD

I like Lineker but I don't watch MOTD much anymore. Tend to see the short highlights on youtube for non-City games and that's about it. Enjoy the podcasts but there comes a time when it's right to stop paying someone more and more money and bring in a new team. The BBC need to be careful though, it's an institution for some people. And those people are going to need a specific candidate to fill his shoes. I don't think they can refresh it and bring in a new audience as younger people don't want long winded tactical analysis. Could go the way of Top Gear if they're not careful and take a few iterations before they settle on a similar make-up to what they had originally.

Lineker wasn't an issue. The entire MotD format is a tired one is and the BBC could do with coming up with fresher ideas (if possible) to try and drum up a new interest with their coverage. As for Alex Scott if she doesn't show her imparitiality with gooners (along with her partner) then it shouldn't be an issue her taking over.

I’ve nothing against the crisp shagger.

Haven’t watched MOTD in years though if I’m honest. It’s a tired format but then again I hardly watch any football analysis or punditry. It’s all for “banter” and very little technical analysis.

You need to either be pissed or brain dead to stomach most of it.

Lineker was actually one of the more intelligent ones, no doubt to be replaced by some gurning idiot like Micah Richards.

Yes the banter has you looking for the sick bucket.

Wish they could do what ITV have done for EFL highlights and just have one person presenting at a ground somewhere, no analysis. I just watch on iplayer and fast forward it.

Its tired for those that have watched it for decades, still a big audience and youngsters enjoy it - but they are competing with Sky highlights and social media nowadays. not much more they can do.

They would if it was Danny fuckin' Murphy :)

I know that’s a joke. But still. There would be moaning a plenty from people saying he’s a scouse shill. Or a shit pundit. Or even just an old fashioned cùnt.

But not a single person would mention his gender or skin colour as the problem.

People like to moan, in general the BBC are fuckers who seem to give popular opinion the big fat bird. IMHO it's only good and proper the public give them grief for it.

I for one can't wait for the whole of the organisation to get canned.

Havent watched it since the silent one , lets face it it goes like this

Welcome to motd

X faced x today

Well what did you think shearer and one other ?

Next up is x v x

Repeat

Anyone who is half decent at presenting could do his job

Depends who they get. Lineker did a completely different job to Des Lynam and David Coleman for example. He’s primarily the presenter. But I imagine he’s encouraged to chip in with his opinions also. As you’d expect from someone who’s played the game at the very highest level.

Good presenters from a journalistic background know that their job is to simply anchor the programme and draw the best out of the guests. Who may not always be as accomplished speaking to camera as they are.

What you absolutely don’t want, is a Richard Keyes type. Who’s convinced himself over the years that his expert opinion on the game is what the public demands.

From the bits I have seen recently, on any football program, a mix of Mark Chapman, Izzy, Nedum and Theo Walcott would do fine.
They just need to comment sensibly and link between games. Intelligence over smart arse gets like Ian Wright, Keown, Murphy, Shearer…and Micah.
Make it informative again…

Has anyone asked if Everton have been informed?
If not can we do so please
Also, I'm really surprised we haven't been blamed yet.
