Lineker leaving MOTD

I'd happily let it continue the way it did when they all went on strike for Jug Ears. Just show the games, no bollocks in between.
And if they want to discuss anything, stop being cowards and highlight these sort of things:
  • Fake injuries, time wasting, technical time outs
  • Shocking tackles that go unpunished
  • Bollocks by the officials in charge

And that’s fine. The BBC are catering for those without Sky that want some analysis.

I have access to all the other channels but still like to watch Match of the Day most weeks. I suspect a lot of people are the same.

Maybe partly out of habit but also Sky have never really put together a similar type of highlights show, with all the goals from the day, with a bit of chatter.

They had that Sunday morning programme with Chris Kamara that was ok. But it went on for hours. Not really comparable to a neat little one hour or so package like MotD.

Linekar was a a great host and fair. He gets a lot of abuse from thick racist Gammon cunts, but, he can handle that. I will miss him.
He's a pleasant guy, doesn't take himself seriously, and comes accross as somebody you could have a nice evening with, chatting away about all and sundry. His podcast with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards exemplifies that.

I have lifelong friends with political beliefs I don't agree with, but we get along just fine.

I will miss him too.

The BBC pay for the rights to show the highlights, so perhaps it's part of the contract the no other broadcaster is allowed to do a similar programme.

He dares to have political opinions in public while also working for the BBC. Well, certain political opinions anyway. I'm gonna guess the same people had no issue with Jeremy Clarkson regularly expressing his political opinions on a BBC show.
If it wasn't for the Daily Heil, I doubt my Mrs would know who Gary Lineker is.

I imagine you’re probably right. It’s not like Sky’s schedules are that tight that they couldn’t find room to squeeze an hour highlights show in somewhere over the weekend.

They dont need a presenter, it is a redundant position, they did it without a presenter when lineker had his little tantrum and it did just fine and it would going forward, pundits are entirely unnecessary and bring so little to the table, i can see the game and there has never been and never will be a time where some idiot ex footballer sheds light and comes up with anything that hasnt already been seen, the only reason they are there now is to tell us what to think about the game and push a narrative.
