In some parallel universe where we did actually sign Messi, I wonder if it would actually be a good thing?

What if it meant we became so completely untouchable in English football that we won everything every year. Instead of a Sky 4 being top every year, year in, year out, it was a Sky 1; us? What if we won the FA Cup every single year and the CoC as well?

What if Abramovic thought, Sod this, I can't compete so I am giving up? And the Glazers decided it wasn't worth bothering any more. What if the PL became rather boring, knowing who's going to win every year, and it lost its international appeal? The competitive nature of our league is one of its key selling points and if it's no longer competitive, would people tune out?

Messi is knocking on a bit, so I guess he on his own wouldn't make all these things happen for ever. But it might be a start of a dynasty no-one could touch. And I think if he did join us, it would in the short term make our winning everything (domestically) a foregone conclusion. And I am not sure that would be a good thing.

Knocking on a bit???......he's 26

My bad, I thought he was 28/29. Still, that's not material. I think we would walk the league every year with him in the side. Would that be good? I dunno. Personally I'd rather we had to try a bit, and actually lost occasionally!

Sounds good to me, when's he signing?

Here's a suggestion. Let's give it a go for 5 years and see how we feel at the end of it.

a) it hasn't hurt Barca, Real or Bayern in the past, there's always a competitor because we will bring more money to the league, allowing the likes of at least Arse or Chelsea more financial freedom to play with. Also Abramovich won't get "bored".

b) buying 1 player doesn't guarantee anything, Real should have killed Barca 10 years ago on that principle and Barca have dominated the last decade through building a structure and ethos.

c) in a 5 year window the lure and rep of Messi and watching new English giants would maintain the appeal, if not boost the appeal of the Prem. Also the war between Sky and BT extends far further than just Prem rights but with BT's acquisition of Champs League the rivalry at the next round of Prem bidding will be enormous, meaning the money coming into the Prem through the TV deal will go up even further imo.

Thus the Premier League is in rich health and will only continue to grow as it has survived the financial crisis and actually grown in that period, thus you really need to get a counsellor because you're paranoia and desperate searching for reasons to not buy him needs some help. You need someone to talk to about your anxiety issues.

We wouldn't dominate with messi in the team. For every away game on a wet week day evening we'd be playing with 10 men
Why, will Boyata still be getting games?
