I’m surprised by people getting excited at the reports that the release clause isn’t active because having the release clause or not having it has absolutely no relevance to whether we get him.
The key issues are whether he is or is not contracted to Barca and, if under contract, at what price Barca will sell him.
All the €700M clause ever provided was a level of offer above which Messi could leave, if he wanted, but Barca could always have accepted a lower offer.
If there’s no such clause, and if Messi is still contracted then Barca set the price - and if he’s not under contract then Barca have absolutely no say because he’s a free agent.
In Spain if you don’t have a release clause you can terminate your contract and a judge will decide your value. That’s why in Spain, everyone has a release clause.

Nope. EVERY player in Spain has a release clause. If Messi no longer has one then he is FREE to leave due to his unilateral termination clause. If his release clause is not active then Barca are donezo.

His record playing from the right last season:

PositionGamesGoalsAssists
FWR (Forward Right)
24
24
17

Can you delete this ASAP, what will the people who say he’s past it do if they realise and look into his stats last season and see they are better than 90 odd % of players across the game

If this united or Liverpool linked with Messi you just know ssn would have reporters outside trying to see if Messi arrives. Pathetic coverage

BBC is even worse. If it was any other club but us there'd be about six articles at the top of the Football page, not just hidden in the gossip section.

If he signs I expect the media will also focus on cost or how he's too old now, or spin it to say our defence is terrible. I also expect a major media wankathon over the next scouse/rag signing. Thiago 'better than Messi'. Fucking ridiculous.
