The great thing about the equity idea is that it ties him to the club and/or CFG long term.

Beckham left MLS in 2012, but he's been an ambassador and spokesman for MLS for the past 8 years because it's growth was good for him.

Someone compared Messi to Michael Jordan and the Bulls, and I think that's a good comparison, Messi is going to be making people money for decades after he's retired. If you can tie City to that not just for 3 seasons as a player, but for a further 5 or 10 as some sort of City ambassador or even just as a very powerful ally, that'll be hugely profitable.

I mentioned earlier in the procedings how we brought in Vieira to the group when Arsenal had no interest in him & he will forever have a
good feeling for City, even though he was once 100% Arsenal, he prefers our people to theirs.

Not impossible Barca could drive Messi into the same mindset.

I understand it's Messi and all, but does anyone feel a bit weird about a new signing getting a % of the CFG? I feel like it would be more fitting giving the likes of Aguero, Silva etc a very tiny % each
I dont like it ,we have plenty of legends to give share to , i dont like him swaning in and getting something like a slice of our club

Yes i know he is messi but he hasnt built anything here,he hasnt even kicked a ball and he gets shares

Dont like it

I hope we’re having conversations with MLS after what they gave Beckham to play they should also be contributing to this.

It's purely financial. A way of getting around ffp and wage rise regs. He'll be more than worth it.

He is intent on leaving no matter what. He has eyes only for us as his next club. He will be a City player, for what its worth i never post absolutes unless im sure as sure can be.

That is simplistic in wording but taking everything into account i see no other outcome.

The only possible road block would be Barca somehow delaying the move past end of transfer window. Even then, every footy fan on earth would rage at Barca should he somehow miss games or a chunk of the season due to legal nonsense. More than a club? Bartomeu would be the guy who not only drove Messi away but who also made Barca look like the bitter nasty man of football. He would be crucified and the next president would likely take legal action against him.

Something along the lines of Bartomeu reducing the clubs commercial appeal through wreckless business practise etc etc.
If he’s out of contract and a free agent, does the transfer window matter?

Right — and I’m the most positive person about this move.

I’m convinced it’s moving in the right direction, but a question I’ve got is,

If Bartemeu rejects him moving tomorrow and we go to FIFA to get a provisional transfer certificate and the fee goes to a tribunal

Is it possible to walk away once the fee has been settled so we don’t get stiffed?

Does Messi go on his own, they decide a fee then we move in? How exactly does the process work?
