Still not convinced this has completely played out. Bartomeu could be personally liable for tens of millions of losses if he loses the election. By keeping an unhappy Messi, he'll have to pay him for another season, plus pay a supposed €65m loyalty bonus plus allow him to leave on a free in the summer. So let's say that's €165m at least.

By selling him now, he could potentially get €100-125m in fees then save that €165m. So Barca could be nearly €300m better off selling him now. A company director has a legal duty to act in the best interests of the company, which he isn't doing.

Be interesting to see who blinks first.

as one of the intelligent folks what’s the view , is he coming or not in your opinion
obviously the average punter hasn’t a clue really

I don’t think it’s over but dont see Barça dealing with us, nor do I see us paying anything near what they’d want. I think he’ll leave but think PSG are possibly the more likely destination when it comes to the money expected.
I see where you’re coming from. It was mentioned at the beginning that we were able to do the transfer but only on a free. That was maybe a ploy to get him on the ‘cheap’, but what the latest ‘Messi is staying’ statement does is to bring other clubs into the game in this window. If we’re wrong and he’s not all about City/Pep, then there’s one club doesn’t mind riding roughshod over ffp (respect) while escaping the kind of scrutiny other clubs get - PSG.

Like others, I'm not entirely convinced this is done either. If I look at it from Barca's point of view, surely they now know that Messi is going to negotiating a free transfer in January so are they really prepared to lose £100m and wages on an unsettled player?

I'm not really expecting it to work, but from City's point of view I think it's a shot to nothing. After all we were probably half expecting to make a bid of around £100m anyway?

It seems madness to bid for the player now when we could get him for free, but that would be in 12 months time, and there's no guarantee we would get him ahead of a PSG etc

Not sure. Just can’t see Messi playing in the French league. Yes they had two teams in the CL semis but it’s a pretty poor league.
