8 days left...if he is going to sign a new contract he certainly is leaving it very late.
 
Do people here understand there is nothing that is stopping messi from signing for barca even after his contract expires in a week? Barca's position doesn't become weaker in a week's time. Messi is allowed to talk to other teams and even sign contracts for other teams right now. They are not in any particular time constraint and nothing will happen even if he doesn't sign in a week.

Yeah... I mean.. a cynic might point out that there've been rumours he would sign for us - every single window since September 2010, and not an awful lot came of them.

Seriously, he's still playing at the Copa. Could be there until second week of July. Would hardly be a suprise if he knocked that off before signing on the dotted line.

As Keeper! said they are generating a lot of money. It will increase once Covid situation is dealt with. Also, Real Madrid and Barça are kinda sacred things in Spain. Remember the justice went as far as not allowing the likely proofs of doping by spanish football players (and other athletes) to be disclosed in the Puerto case.

They are what keep the people happy (bread and circuses/games) and are too big to fail. They'll keep getting loans after loans if needed.

Their brand is big enough for them to be able to keep big commercial income without Messi and attracting players.
