Nothing is guaranteed. Why some throw out these stupid one liners to try and justify their opinion is simply, stupid.Its a short term solution, but seeing whats happening this year and how many problems we have maybe an amount of problems that takes more than one window to fix, a short term solution to get you through that Period is pretty appealing to me. 25-30 goals for the next two years guaranteed, knows the style, allows us to rebuild whilst winning? Easy call for me.

There was a time for this for us years ago (not that we could have signed him then anyway). But it isnt now.
1/2 years of a declining but still extortionately expensive messi is not what we need.
We’ve gone backwards (mostly this year) since the 17/18 year where we had pace and power all over the pitch. We need that back, quickly, before its the whole team that is the issue and we end up where barca are now.
And for me messi (as incredible as he is still) is a step in the wrong direction.
I also want us to achieve greatness without this messiah figure parachuted in. Im already uneasy about how pep seems to have adopted/been thrust into that role. Never mind the greatest player of all time, drafted in to achieve those goals.
His reputation would also be in tatters if he moves to us. Legacy suicide from his point of view. Shocked if he was even remotely serious. Surely this is an internal power play

He won’t down toolsThe truth is that it's a bit of a grey area. There is a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the club on a free at the end of every season. However, the clause 'expires' at the end of May every year. With the way COVID stopped football for 3 months, the season has obviously gone long past May, but nobody really knows whether Barca and Messi have discussed this or if Barca would honour it in August. I'd imagine not, but who knows really. If he says I'm out, let me go or I'll down tools, what recourse does the board really have?
