Nobody believes Bartomeu's lies. He's just doing this to save face. He's trying to make it look like he did everything he possibly could to stop Messi from leaving. Messi's probably already told him to fuck off, so he's just trying to do this to make Messi look like the bad guy. Besides, he can't resign..... otherwise he has to take on the debt from his own pocket.

He doesn't give a shit if Messi leaves or not. The board would be happy to get rid of Messi's salary and bonuses. It's a win-win here.

Messi deserves a team that's going places and plays good football whilst he's still got time left. He's not going to get that at Barcelona.
