The ball is very much in Messi's court, where it has always been, and he can control what happens.

Right now at least a couple times a week Barcelona candidates will be coming out with 'we will keep him this way, or we will offer him that, or we will convince him like so'. While there is no need to respond to it, when it gets close to January, he can very easily put a stop to all that, with a simple statement that he has decided it is his last season, he is honouring the contract he was forced to honour, as noted in the summer, out of love for the club etc, but that is it. That then stops him being used as a pissing contest between rival candidates, and opens up publucly to other clubs to start negotiations. Then Barcelona have the call whether to look to get something out of it in january, or not.

It will come down entirely to whether he really does want to leave, or not. As has been the case to date.

There's absolutely no point even trying to engage with someone who writes something as fucking stupid as that.

Anyone who thinks signing Messi is a short term move is being wilfully ignorant at this point, there's only so many times the long term financial benefits of having the greatest football player in history shine a colossal spotlight on your club for 2 or 3 years can be explained.

Also, I think it's absolutely pathetic to claim Pep Guardiola "won't care what damage is done to the Club once gone". Guardiola has come to this club, brought the fans 8 trophies, domestic success that could only be dreamed of, he's gone to bat for the club dozens of times in front of a press pack looking to bring the club down, challenged UEFA, the G-14, the hateful 8.

What the fuck has he ever done for some random on a forum to question how much he cares about the club?
Double like with a cherry on top - well said

Created "22" false chances because I dont remember Lloris making a save other than the Diaz header but I agree, Messi barely needs half a yard and its in the top corner. He might walk slow and not track back but he knows where the net is. 70/80+ goals is not impossible even on a two year contract.
As long as he can keep up with play when were attacking he'll find the net

Very well said Dom.I swear some people can`t see the fucking wood for the trees ... or maybe their stupidity shines brighter than we imagined. ;)

The xG for the Spurs match was 2.3 v 0.9 in City's favour.

Messi would make all the difference at the 2.3 end because he is the only player in the World that consistently beats xG

Almost inevitable then that a contract will be pretty much done, just waiting for final sign off and we lose on the last day to come 5th. However we are in the final of the CL and signing the greatest player the game has ever seen will hinge on that. A competition we weren’t even supposed to be in. Typical.

He's coming barring some sort of miracle from Barcelona. It's either he's here in January, which would take Messi announcing he's leaving Barca between now and January and forcing Barca's hand as they're cash strapped or he's coming for free at the end of the season. The Garcia move I feel will tie in.

Every sign points to it. In three days the media articles have gone from we have ruled out the move cause of the expense involved, to Pep has had a 4 hour discussion with him, to we'll offer him a 10 year deal blah blah blah. To me it seems obvious Messi is coming, the same as Pep staying was obvious I thought.

Messi as a footballer adds to us. Will he track back, likely not, but we can cover that. Currently Mahrez barely does it, and dribbles into nowhere all the time or often. A 33 year old Messi is a better option then Mahrez, and probably 80% of players we could buy. Messi lightens the load on KDB creatively, plus Sterling, Jesus, Aguero as goal scorers also. That's what getting a player like Messi does.

It doesn't fix our long term issues, but it solves the current issues temporarily and opens up more options in the market for the future. Messi is a no brainer signing for me. How that can be disputed I have no idea.

Because despite his brilliance, and despite the obvious commercial benefits, his arrival will not resolve the myriad of problems that we have and have had for 18 months or so. A no-brainer as you say - but not the panacea that some would have you believe.

Whether he ends up coming, or not, i would say whatever is said in the media is completely fabricated and nothing to go by. They will be speculating and covering all basis, your or my opinions and thoughts are literally no less likely or reliable, than what is currently being thrown about. Perhaps at some point someone with a connection to either club or the player might say something worth reading into, however just now it is alm just noise.
