Re ffp isn't the most pertinent point being that we can actually afford to buy Messi for as much as Barca want - just some spreadsheet sent into UEFA has to have a certain balance at the end. ffp doesn't determine how much physical money we have so we can pay Barca £200m today - regardless of how that deal is structured it still goes on the FFP calculation as the full £200m we then have until the end of that monitoring period to raise the money to balance it out. transfer fees are not amortised for the FFP calculation and we don't need to be in credit for the deal to happen. It's the balance at the end of the monitoring period that is important right?

@Futbol_Mercado: El Manchester City está dispuesto a pagar 400 millones de euros por el delantero argentino del Barcelona, Lionel Messi.

Partly right. It is the net profit that's the key for FFP but the transfer fee will be amortised as part of that. We report the full deal to UEFA but that's not part of the actual calculation as to whether we've passed or failed.

And are we thinking we can afford it under FFP?

Oh man back to the FFP thread for extra revision. So if we pay £200 for a 5 year contract his transfer fee means we need to find an additional £40m a year to offset that for the FFP calc?

Yes. It's an obscene amount of money.

If it's £200 we need I throw a tenner in right now! Anyone else?

Anyone who thinks we would give a flying fuck about FFP if the chance arises to sign Messi needs to go and give their head a wobble, imo.

How reliable are these ?

It's Twitter, so probably about as reliable as any random teenager with Internet access.

Surely there is a way round FFP,dunno what.....maybe a couple of personal sponsors thrown messi's way, maybe a sponsor for barca themselves,I'm sure mansour can sort that out.....you know what I mean, pay messi £150k a week and a sponsor pays £150k a week, summat along them lines.....no?

Exactly, people are way too hung up on the finances. If Messi is game for the move we'll buy him and worry about the implications once we have the best player in the world in our squad!

this made me laugh

Just wondering here, as I did not stream through the pages, how many of you think or what are the chances of Messi angling for a new deal?

we could easily get around ffp by getting ethics to sponsor him to make up his wages and reduce his wages. If he earns £250,000 a week that's £13mill basic plus bonuses say £3-4mill for goals trophies etc then ethics sign a sponsorship deal for £8mill that's around £25mill a year, he currently earns around £24mill a year from Barca allegedly.

What's ethics?

I don't understand why the club does not employ g180aj as chief accountant/lawyer. I think he'd be grate negotiating these multi-million pound deals with sponsors ect.
