we could easily get around ffp by getting ethics to sponsor him to make up his wages and reduce his wages. If he earns £250,000 a week that's £13mill basic plus bonuses say £3-4mill for goals trophies etc then ethics sign a sponsorship deal for £8mill that's around £25mill a year, he currently earns around £24mill a year from Barca allegedly.

What's ethics?
Sorry predictive text haha was meant to say etihad

People wondering if it's worth getting Messi or thinking it would be to the detriment of our squad? Give it up lads, football isn't the game for you.

Was Chippy spelling of ect. (etc.) predictive text?

Simple economics. Lionel Messi would turn us into a club of world stature. The resulting growth in income from Sponsorship, match day income, Plus helping us win the Champions league, would help us become one of the biggest and best clubs in the world. Priceless.

Fuck FFP just get him signed up that will ensure filling the expanded stadium, and give a two fingered salute to Platini.

So an extra 3 million a year is going to cover the messi deal? Chelsea have come out and said any deal for messi can't be done. Which is probably right, it's just impossible to spend the amount of money that is being branded about, with ffp still in place. Like I've said, the only way of getting messi is to come up with some dodgy deal.

If this is true, we would have a dictator on our hands if we sign him

He may be a great player but I smell a heap of trouble. We don't want someone who will wield all the power on and off the pitch. The beautiful game is a team game not about one individual. Like in any team one bad apple can spoil the rest. Whilst you only get a media perspective on someone which is the same for all public figures, I don't like the smell of this one. He only gets might vote if he offers to buy everyones season ticket for life out of his loose change.

Not at all. Part of the problem is that at Barca Messi is the King. If he doesn't play they don't win. Since Pep left, even while Pep was there at times, they were a one man team for all their pretty football. You took Messi out of the side and they were beatable. We aren't that and he'd be coming into a team where he could relax, enjoy his football, and play without the insane pressure in Barca.

No doubt he's a bit of a prima donna, but in a dressing room with Kun, Zaba, etc. at a club with Txiki, Ferran, Manuel, etc. He'd be fine.

I love the smell of it and would happily pay an extra £100 for my season ticket to see the best player on the planet and arguably of all time line up in a City shirt.

I don't understand why the club does not employ g180aj as chief accountant/lawyer. I think he'd be grate negotiating these multi-million pound deals with sponsors ect.

I hadn't noticed you before. This could get confusing!

And can you brush up on your spelling please? I have my reputation to consider. Ect. ;-)

That made me laugh - even if we sell 55,000 season tickets an extra £100 each + lets say £100 each for merchandise.

Downside - stadium full of tourists / less away tickets for proper fans / other players wanting more cash /dressing room unrest bl bla bla.

As I said - great player - but is baggage worth it. I would rather have another Aguero who is quiet, not mouthing off and lets his feet do the talking.

Get a grip! If we get a chance to sign the greatest player in the world, there's no downside!

That wasn't my point though, what I'm saying is I'd happily pay more to watch the greatest player in the world play for City. Not that my £100 would in anyway make the tiniest of dents in his wage, or even £100 x 55,000.

We're making our stadium into a 60,000+ capacity in the next couple of seasons so there's plenty of room for "proper" fans, as well as tourists.
Messi is a one off, he would deserve to be the highest layer at the club because would offer the most, both on and off the pitch.
You will have to show me all the genuine reports and instances of him mouthing off as apart from whispers and rumour I don't think he's the anti-Christ that some make him out to be. He's the personififuckingcation of a footballer who lets his feet do the talking.
At the end of the day, if City can put the package together and he's willing to leave Barcelona we should be balls deep in it. If we can't afford him then c'est la vie, we move on.

Imagine how much of a ridiculous team we could field v someone like Burnley at home if this somehow happened

Hart
Zaba komps manga kola

Yaya Ferni
Silva Aguero Messi
Bony

Could get used to a few 9-3 wins a season!

That's just the Twilight Zone isn't it.

Am I right in saying this ffp thing is just a UEFA issue?

If so, why don't New York City 'buy' Messi (and pay his wages) = $750 million and then they can 'lend' him to MCFC for a few years.

(I can't think where I got this idea from!)

It would be a genuine dream come true if City were to sign Messi, but I simply cannot see it happening. That's not a "likkle City" mentality, as some patronisingly put it, more a pragmatic realisation of the difficulties involved in prising a player of Messi's standing from a club of Barca's magnitude. Their transfer ban makes the deal impossible in the foreseeable future in my eyes.

Obviously no one can say definitively what will happen, but if I was a betting man I'd be putting my money on him staying at Barca.
