Messi is an incredible player but I doubt he will ever surpass Maradona. Maradona won a WC for Argentina and Seria A for Napoli. Messi does not have that level of influence with Barca or the Argentine national team. I know he has got time on his side but I don't forsee it happening.

I don't understand how you cannot compare a players influence on a team in the 80s with another players influence on a team in C21st.
I accept comparisons are not 'perfect' but they are not invalid either.

the first time i saw him was at the U20 or U19 world cup final against Nigeria a few years ago in holland. scored 2 goals, argentina won 2-1.

Maradona was a footballing phenomenon- a one man team for both club and country.

I disagree mate, personally think that Messi is the equal of Maradona.
The game has moved on since Maradona's days and he wouldn't have been able to have a similar impact in the modern game.
