It’s 10 years since I/we were there.
Europa league, 800 of us and we lost - let out at FT no issues.
Now 2.5 K/ ECL.
Sporting don’t do CL very often but have to deal with this in their domestic league - there will be a routine way of dealing with away fans.
The info sent out by the club, as always is very late, incomplete (about post match treatment especially and free seating or not and has no association with fan discussion whatsoever. Fortunately, we stayed near Rossio metro and expected a long lock in, no alcohol in the ground etc.
Why are we not informed about the plans which are typical for CL games earlier or with details?
Herded like criminals in enclosed spaces this week without warning or choice to a closed exit at a Metro for some miles from their digs and we still have a bloody pandemic ongoing.
The fan embassy approach by national football teams works brilliantly and is really helpful for travelling fans new to the city visited or new venues for all.
Needs financing to send out a few blues out in advance to work with club(s) and also their fan representatives too as it works both ways?

Would be a great job going for a few days jollies to away venues in advance, I,'d be up for that. Seriously though they are all good points.

Post match lock-in was ludicrous as was the silly scaremongering by city about the ‘ultras’ stop and avoiding home fans at all costs. Anyone that is used to going away with city home and abroad hardly has Lisbon as one of the ones to watch. But I did hear loads of younger lads worrying in the escort as if there was any reason to be concerned and then realising that the so called threat consisted of about 50 of their fans munching hot dogs by the metro and smiling. I know a few bottles got chucked around beforehand but an hour and a half from the game finishing to getting back into civilisation was overkill and the club should have warned those of us with hotels nearer the stadium and airport that we would have to make our way all the way back. Portugal is a good friendly trip and it’s time to start giving English fans a bit more respect that they can behave themselves

the only highlight of the Kettling operation after the game was hearing someone shouting at the robocops “What are you doing to us, you’re meant to be on our side we were allies at the Armada” a great history lesson for me as I had no idea previously so thanks for the info

We got there an hour before kick off to be stopped and hearded into a City fan convoy where the Sporting fans had free reign to lob bottles at us, not the end of the world but far from ideal.

End of the game, locked in for an hour, finally let out & as stated above, hearded to a closed train station a good few miles from our hotel which was on the other side of the stadium. Luckily as we started walking we spotted a taxi or we would of been looking at getting in at 12:30/1am. We had to be up for 3:45 for a flight to Gatwick, all totally unnecessary and created unneeded aggravation. I’ve never understood why the police at these games seemingly want to aggravate fans, contrast how our police treat European away fans at our place & it is night & day.

It's just another stadium on my list that I will be avoiding. Would be glad to travel with the lads but watch in a bar. Fuck em!!!

Total farce after the game and felt quite depressing. The over reaction with the riot gear was laughable. Three of us got to the stadium about 3 hours before kick-off, and got off the metro where we were told not to at the Campo Grande. Close by there was a sea of green & white gathered at what looked like their fan zone where food and drink was being served. Went over had a few beers and chat with their fans, no problem. What that was all about after the game I don't know, changed the whole vibe to a negative.

Wasn't much different than Seville a few years back, perhaps not as much police knocking fuck outta the more pissed up blues, the walk to the Metro was a bit of a bind but straight to town centre weren't to bad 15 minute walk to Couch Bar just in time for full re run of the game(which was better than watching through netting) few more pints and 8 Euro Uber back to hotel all together great few days out. Roll on Spurs.
