Lisbon post match fan treatment and supporter services fan info

After the escort we ditched the metro and found a bar. Owner was a benfica fan - made us very welcome. Great knowledge of football. He told us that over the years, English fans have caused problems in Lisbon, therefore have a poor reputation - hence the overkill. He told us liverpool fans are the worst and loathed, followed by Chelsea.

The escort seemed overkill and probably was but given events like the Euro's final, English football fans reputation must be in a bad place on the continent. Sounds like there wasn't much trouble so I imagine they will believe it was proportionate and effective

Being locked in the metro station was v frustrating but seemed like a genuine fuck up, thankfully they let us out of the other exit

Agree that the City documentation should have given some kind of warning, felt sorry for people who were not staying around Rossio

We've had considerably longer lock in's before. The escort to the station was a bit OTT but the extra time the escort took was probably made up by the metro not stopping. Not ideal if you weren't staying near there but I think the majority were, but I dont think thats too different from when buses are provided to drop you back to a main square at other games.

Do they always close that Metro stop after games? I ask because one very close to the Emirates is closed after games and there were signs at Brentford's new ground saying a couple were exit only for an hour after matches.

A few folk around me were getting a bit skittery due to the police escort
A lot of females and college kids and a blind / partially sighted guy

We are going up ....

Surprised he can tell the chelsea fans from the liverpool fans, they couldn’t at Heysel

To be honest the only idiots I spotted were City fans, and even they were only guilty of typical boorish Englishness.

The fact that we're even debating whether this was worse than Seville, but not as bad as Naples, speaks volumes for our expectations of a typical European fixture
In contrast this was my partner's first experience, and she was appalled by the fact that we were herded onto the green line and forced to Rossio Square when our hotel was only three stops from the stadium on the yellow line
Sadly, it's just something that I've been taking for granted for a depressingly long period.

PS: I disagree slightly with the OP because we were definitely locked-in after the Europa League game in 2012, albeit not for as long

Didn't fancy the Metro, looked like potential carnage so carried on down the hill, across Bridge towards hospital where I knew there had to be a taxi rank. Apart from a couple of the robocops looking like they were dying for an excuse to whack a couple of heads together it all passed off fairly peacefully.

We did the same but walked all the way into town
