"Little Benny" Bennion

I got an A&E punch because of him once, long story!

Saw him outside a Smiths gig once too, don't know if he was a tout or fan, seemed an odd mix hooligan and Smiths devotee.

RIP
Without trying to derailing the thread, the myth that The Smiths were a student / wimpy kids band is nonsense. They did become that after the event but not at the time. I went to 5 gigs and the one at Salford Uni was the closest I have been to being at a game when at a gig. Pure meat heads, looking to kick off, chanting 'Salford, Salford Salford' between songs. Most took their shirts off it was so hot in there.... muscle bound shaved heads..... singing and dancing to Hand In Glove and Frankly Mr Shankly. My best gig ever.

RIP Benny, can't recall him to be honest. Can I ask, how did he pass away?

Yes I've often thought Smiths = student band is a myth. In Manchester particularly though I distinctly remember feeling outnumbered queuing early for the '86 Maxwell Hall gig as a 'casual' among what was mostly student types dresswise.

RIP Blue. Didn't know him, but probably been to loads of aways when he's been there.

Read the book, respect.

Sad news, read his autobiography a few years ago and it sounded like he’d have a pretty tough upbringing. Liked the fact that he helped kick the NF out of City in the 80s.

Cardiac Arrest on Friday. Managed to recover his heart beat, but unfortunately died NY day (Monday) at 4pm. Aged 49

Yes, he deserves credit for that, I hated seeing them outside Maine Rd. I didn't know him to speak to but looking at his pic in that article I do remember him from away games in that era.

RIP Blue.

RIP BENNY LAD.
A Die hard blue who was with us through the dark / bad times and the good / great times
