Does anyone know how many bytes an hour live streaming uses, roughly?
I used up my limit of gigabytes last month, first time since i have had a computer (6 years),and was wondering if it was because of streaming City games and UFC streams.
Thanks in advance.

It depends on the quality of the stream.Average quality streams are 256kbps (kilo bits per second) which translates to 32000 bytes per second or 115200000 bytes in an hour or 109.86 megabytes an hour. Now suppose lets say that you watch streams for an average of 20 hours a month , then that would amount to 2197.2 megabytes or 2.197 gigabytes or gb. (Internet speed is calculated in bits where as download limit per month is calculated in bytes)

Edit: Sorry, i made a major calculation mistake, sorry , its perfectly correct now .

Thank you for that,Ragnarok.
I still cannot see how we chewed through 12gb (our limit) in 14 days of our monthly cycle. The streams seem to be an unlikey reason,on those figures.
Strange.
Although we do let the kids use the computer to play games, but the oldest is 6,did not think the games she plays would use many bytes.Could that be the reason?

Well , online games average around 1 mb each but they are loaded only once, unless you are a person who deletes the browser cache and clears the history.
Also ordinary web browsing accounts for about 10 mb an hour, so you may have to include that too , and as far as i know youtube viewing accounts for about 100mb an hour.

But the most probable reason could be that you are viewing high quality streams which may take up to 4 times than what i mentioned above
