It was a foul but Stones should have been stronger, however more importantly he should have had the positional sense not to try and nick the ball that's what cost him and that is why I believe Pep is looking at Evans.

Evans will provide cover but more importantly he will help the likes of Stones positionally in my opinion.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this -
I think there was a foul on kdb when Liverpool got possession when they turned over the ball at the start of the move before Firminho scores - kdb makes a lame appeal for it after being nudged in the back. Evidently, only the home team gets those decisions at Klanfield.
Anyway, we knew we'd lose there without David Silva. Then Delph went off. Arguably it was a mistake to start Sterling. But we still wouldn't have lost if we hadn't hit the self destruct button.
4 league wins going forward next will put everything right, and fingers crossed, no more injuries.

It was a calamity 10 minute spell that cost us with a couple of 'debatable' challenges on our players thrown in but what is frustrating is just after halftime we were in total control and then shot oursleves in the foot.

Even at 4-1 we managed to claw back to 4-3 with another 10 minutes we'd have got a draw I'm certain of it.

It was just one of those days.

151 pages and still going strong!

Thank goodness it wasn’t 20 minutes of meltdown or the server would overheat!

We lost 4-3 to Liverpool away. They’re on the best run in the League (I know, we forget they had same last 5 record as us going into the game). We never win there. We were unbeaten and 15 points clear before we went into game, 18 clear of them.

We move on without the whole world talking about still being unbeaten, which is great. However, the next game is ALWAYS the most important one, none more so than this time, so we also avoid the “City are in freefall” bullshit, and giving any of the chasing pack any ideas!

why cant liverpool play like that every week

we have

Many teams park the bus against them. It's a different game when there is not much space, have to be creative rather than relying on opposition mistakes. It's our fault we played so open against them.

Some right 'snowflake' blues on here seeing conspiracy theories everywhere.. Stones looked like a carthorse pulling a combined harvester. When a defender cannot withstand a nudge they deserve what they get..
I think he may have been forced back a week or two early because of our CB issues. He is like the Stones of last season in recent games. I have had time to reflect on the game and thought that the result was fair Liverpool were the better team and deserved the points. We need to be positive and try to get a good result on Saturday and take each game as it comes.

I don't agree they were the better team. They looked hungrier but we had contained them well and equalised after conceding a sloppy goal. We were on top, indeed we hit the bar when we conceded that awful second, which in my opinion was a foul no matter how weak Stones was. For a few minutes buoyed by that they got right in our faces and we made two howlers and the game was as good as over. We kept at it and if we had another five minutes I am convinced we would have equalised.

If Silva played in that game we would have done better as Gundogan was constantly losing the ball up front so putting us on the back foot. Also Bernardo should have come on earlier for Sterling as he was totally ineffective, the crowd having got to him. Although Aguero set up the third goal he had a terrible game but he was slightly isolated.

We were going to lose sometime and given our appalling record at Anfield and their current form it was nailed on it would be this game.

We have a week to rest lick our wounds and hopefully go on another run which will seal the title and maybe another trophy. A couple of fresh faces would help in the areas we are suffering due to injury.

I don't understand why our opponent are getting giddy about this result.

We've proved you need to score at least 4 goals against us to beat us. Even then we might get them back.

:)

Still pissed off that that Firmino was playing after his racist remark let alone shoving Stones in the back to score..

The FA are a joke also the ref he must've heard it...

Kick out my arse ...

A defeat might be a good thing because it's hard to stop complacency creeping in no matter how hard the staff try to guard against it.

Disappointed in the manner of the defeat though, 4-3 flattered us a bit i thought. Still, one bad day doesn't mean anything when placed in the context of the great season we're having

The only thing that really worries me, other than us gifting them three goals, is that some of our slack play might be down to players running on empty and limited options to rotate.
The decision to start the season with two forwards was lunacy. Yes, we've been brilliant so far, but Sergio looks knackered and we'll play games in at least three competitions before Jesus is back. I know the midfield are scoring but we need genuine cover up top. And that means getting hold of second choice as Sanchez has been a fuck-Muppet.
It's the same at the back where Vince has been a man of glass for around two years and Mangala is always likely to drop a bollock. Stones seemed to have steadied himself but is looking very rusty after his recent injury. I'm not too impressed with the thought of JFE but at least he's an option.
Problems with burn-out or tiredness, call it what you will, were always likely to impact after Christmas and while this week gives us a chance to recover we'll be back to playing two games a week fairly soon. We play two games a week because we're bloody good, but the players aren't bloody machines.
Home games against the Barcodes and Baggies gives us a chance to pick up six points, and I can't see us messing up the Prem, but it still leaves a lot of games with a lot of tired players.

And I'm not trying to turn this into another Evans thread there is already one I just think the Stones incident gives a little insight into Peps thinking.
John Stones is the most Pep-style CB anywhere apart from Pique. Just one of many having an off day.
