The last time we tried playing with multiple defenders in the midfield we lost 1-0 to Villa. 1-0 flattered us as we had our arses handed to us that evening. We were awful and Villa ran through us repeatedly.

This was our starting eleven:

We had two efforts, all night, both on target

Villa had twenty two efforts, seven on target.

Fuck knows what the solution is.

It wasn't helped by the fact Stones had just come back from injury iirc.

If you're going to play a defence-minded midfield like that you can't have attacking players who want the ball to feet too. It's too passive. If you're going to load up like that, you have to play pace up top and get the ball played into space. The issue at Villa was that no one in midfield had any creative bone and Bernie and Foden weren't able to find any space or make anything happen either.

Doku's not fit which is a shame, otherwise I'd suggest we do something ridiculously defensive and then just task Savinho and Doku with looking to run in behind with Haaland.

Pep will stick to the approach of keep the ball well and we shouldn't get caught on the break. But in the form we're in, if we can't do it against Feyenoord we're fucked at Anfield where 9 times out of 10 we're shite.
