Glad that Ortega is starting ahead of Ederson, the latter has had some poor shows at Anfield down the years. Lewis starting again surprises me, has little stamina chasing back but will need to be busy in midfield.
Relieved that Dias is back, hopefully fully fit.
A good solid defensive showing and we can nick it on the break

I think this is going to be a rough one.

It might even be the toughest result since Pep got here. It might be something akin to the 7-0 United suffered a few years ago, or maybe the 5-0 we handed out to Liverpool, or the 6-0 we handed to Chelsea or the 5-0 we handed to Arsenal. I have to say that I really don't think it will be that bad - but I still think this will be a tough watch, because most of our key guys are either out injured or not fit enough to start. We won four in a row. An off year is inevitable.

If I'm wrong I will obviously be delighted, but if I'm right, I really hope we can agree to just take it on the chin. Either way, we've had a better decade than any other football club in the word except arguably Real Madrid. Whatever this rought spell is, we're going to work it out. Have a good Sunday night, all - and I'll see you on the other side.

Some of you lot don’t deserve to have experienced this wonderful team in the last few years, throwing the fucking towel in at the first sign of real adversity.

Fuck knows how insufferable you’re going to be when we actually turn to shit.

Do I think we’re likely to win today? Absolutely not, but I’m certainly not ever going to predict a City team under Pep Guardiola losing by three and four goal margins ffs.
You’ve not seen the team selection I fancy!

Schmeichel

Jensen
Sommeil
Distin
Dunne

Bernabia
Horlock
SWP
Barton

Anelka
Fowler
We’d have more of a chance with that team at the moment, even when we’re down to ten men after Barton gets sent off and Dunne scores an own goal ; )

Kevs gone in the summer isn't he, I can't see the club giving him a new contract if he can't stay fit or play 90 minutes consistently, with his high wage as well.

The midfield is the problem. No cover for the back four we don't have a ball winner in the middle. If we had a ball winner our defence record would be a lot better.
Agree with the defenders but I’d have played Gvardiol instead of Lewis - playing in the Rodri role He’s a good defender when he has a mature back line playing with him; he can play in the Rodri role AND he gets goals.
The only reason he has made mistakes is because, at 24, he was exposed when Ake was taken off which left him playing with young inexperienced Lewis & a young kid as fellow defenders

I think he would have shone today with that back 4 behind him.

Ederson and Gvardiol being dropped are good calls.

De Bruyne not starting is an odd one and outside of fitness the only reason I could think of was that he turns the ball over so often and we can't defend so would lead to countless counter attacks. Only fathomable reason.

Would have liked to see Savinho over Rico too.
Do you really want to see Gundo and Kevin in the same midfield. I dread the day we see the pair together again. The legs can’t cover what they once could.

And if you ask me right now what the teams problem is, I would say energy.

We might see there be a tactical alteration somewhere like a Lewis LWB. I doubt it but never know with Pep.

Happy to see Ederson and Gvardiol taken out of the firing line, both liabilities as it stood. Our Pep still not afraid to make those big calls, nice one Pep :)

Now bring it on scouse twats

Hoping for an Ake masterclass against Salah, nice to see Dias back too.

What will be, will be.
