Think it’s safe to say (I’m sure most agree) that 99.99999% of City fans don’t sing ATV because they believe it is linked to Hillsborough, and the same number would more than likely say it’s because they continuously rewrite history, and continue to act with complete impunity, fuelled by an empowered fan base and frightened media.
It’s my opinion we hijacked the song for our own purpose (it was needed) but unfortunately it seems the narrative was already set in stone, we know why we sing it and won’t have anyone tell us otherwise, even the club, who seem to be taking a safety first approach (can’t blame them) I liken it to old nursery rhymes with tedious links to historical indifferences, I mean how far do we allow them to go is the question? They are hostage taking with words, that sets a dangerous precedent and only serves to inflate their self righteousness.
There’s been some good debate on here, to some it’s just a song, others it’s more than that, think we need to stay away from some of the blue on blue and draw a line, we’re going round in circles, closing the thread would be very counter productive, so maybe a poll ? Allow people to nail their colours to the mast, hold onto their beliefs and move on
