Liverpool fans - arrogant, deluded or just plain stupid?

Liverpool have been challenging for the league for the past three years, and nearly won it last year.

This year, they've had a horrible season, and will finish around 6th. Next season, who knows? If they keep hold of Gerrard and Torres, they could finish in the top four again easily.

A rare off season for them, they have quite a good team there. Their midfield is especially good, Gerrard, Aquiliani, Benayoun, Mascherano. Up front they have the goalscorer Torres and the worker in Kuyt, some decent kids such as N'Gog and a good sub in Babel. Goalkeeper, they have one of the best in the world in Reina. Defensively, they look to have problems, Carragher is getting on (33? 34?), Insua isn't a great player, Agger is nothing special (but solid), the Greek lad looks very average.

It's far too early to these off, with a couple of key signings this season, they could do very well without the Champions League to worry about. The amount of disrespect being shown to them is weird, they are a very good team.
Top post mate.

Agreed.

I've never been one of the "Don't write Liverpool off" brigade this season because I simply don't rate them. Alonso made them tick last season and they've missed him terribly.

Only time will tell, but I suspect Torres is off and there will be a change of manager. 6th at best next season.

It really does depend on their ownership, get rich new owners and a new manager they will be back up there, and there best players will stay, and they may mount a challenge again, however it is looking like they are on the downward slide.

Liverpool are a bit like United light arent they?

Their debt is less but so is their income.

They will sell a player to make up a deficit in their annual income, but for less than United sold Ronaldo.

The double whammy is the stadium costs and the lack of CL.

Whichever way you add it up it means significantly less income than the current top 5 for a minimum of 3 years, perhaps longer.

Considering the fact that they can't invest with their current income that is a big worry.

The other issue is the owners who are, lets not forget, distressed sellers.

Sorry 'Pool but the chance was missed last year and it might be a 3 -5 year hangover.

Don't underestimate the impact Gerrard has made to Liverpool in recent seasons. This season he has been poor. Is it a blip, or will he recover?

Liverpool will surely change manager in the Summer and that will be a crucial decision

to me liverpool arent a good team they are a distinctly average team.

midfield looks good on paper but take gerrard out of it, or if gerrard has an off game, it struggles. up front, take torres out and attacking threat is virtually nil. ngog and babbel just dont cut the mustard for me. defence is extremely shaky.

as i cannot see either gerrard or torres stciking around next year i predict this to be the start of a long period of decline for liverpool football club. the gap is only going to get bigger.

liverpool have been challenging for the title for the last three years? no, I don't believe that for a moment.

last year was by far their best challenge, but the truth is they blew the middle section, only winning 4 out of 13 or something ridiculous. that left them seven points behind, they never got closer than 3 points in reality (at one point they got level but had played two more games) . they won something like 10 out of their last 12. but they were never on terms with utd, utd always had a comfortable gap, it was never in their hands for one moment. to me it was the ultimate example of a team flattering to decieve, on paper it looked close but in reality united always had a cushion, liverpool were just hanging on their coat-tails praying for a cock up.

the season before they finished 11 points off the title. the season before that, the gap was 21 points.

I agree that they've got an excellent first team on paper. reina, johnson, carragher, skrtel, mascherano, aquilani, gerrard, torres, kuyt. but that team has hardly ever set foot on the pitch and will be broken up now. and when it has played in recent weeks, it's hardly set the league alight.

they will get cash to invest one way or another but I think they are going to be looking at top 6 next year and probably the year after.
