was thinking before about Peps decision to have both Kun and GJ on the bench for the utd game......We know Kun was returning from an injury but why was GJ on the bench?

Was it because he is going to play both of them vs liverpool....and does that mean a possible return for Mendy....so playing with a back 3. According the reports, Mendy has been in full training for a bit now. Its not unheard of players coming back from a an injury to go straight back into the starting 11 (rare, but it does happen - i.e. delph at weekend - his injury layoff was nowhere near as serious)

Might explain why Pep played without a striker from the start in the derby. Pep has said numerous times we can only play that way with Mendy on the pitch....

He has to go all out attack and this would be the way to do it and may explain the absence of a striker for the derby

----------Ederson

Walker Kompany Mendy

-----------Ferna

Sterling KDB Silva Sane
-----------GJ
-----------Kun

Good point about the return from injury. Clyne was out since July and started vs Everton without making any sub appearances before hand.

Don’t think it would be right to start him in such a game but I would love to see him on the bench.

The only negative about starting as you suggested is that if it’s not working our only option to change something would be to bring Bernardo on. I would prefer we start with our usual formation and if we don’t score a goal in the first half we can bring on Jesus for a defender and change formations.

Most Liverpool fans hoped to keep it tight and was convinced that we would get at least one away goal last week. Most are convinced that they will get an away goal too now. Fecked if I know what is going to happen but if the fans aint up for this then we dont deserve to go through.

COME ON CITY SHOW THEM WHAT A REAL ATMOSPHERE IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!

I think we need a cushty 1st half red card for Liverpool, couple of injuries as well, and some epic finishing on our part to stand a chance of going through. Scousers will probably sit back anyway and score ome goal from their only shot on target. So if any one team can be part of something mind boggling it's our lot. Just look at the derby. Arguably 5 players short of a 1st team, we completely roasted them first half, so a repeat of that for 90+ minutes might be enough. It's not over.

Lovren will oblige ;-)

So how do we approach this?

Try to keep a clean sheet and get 3 goals and force extra time? (Or perhaps even get 4+ goals in normal time)?

Or accept we need at least 5 goals (because Liverpool scoring at least 1 is inevitable), and go attack attack attack and try to score 6 or 7?

Neither strategy looks likely to succeed imo, but try we must.

We'll win 7-3. You heard it here first. Put a tenner on it.

Start off with our usual game - same as first half against the Rags. I’d snatch your hand off for 2-0 at h/t.

Got to believe the importance of the match will see us learn from recent mistakes and keep full focus/throttle for the whole match.

We know we have to go for it, The dippers May fall into a should we defend and protect what we have or try and score to kill this off - hopefully that fecks with their heads and they can’t do either...

If we get to a position to strike we unleash hell - 3-5-2 - and absolutely destroy the cnuts.

I can’t wait for this game now, we have a chance, no doubt about it

Even if we play half as well as we played against United in the first half, we should smash the fuckers.
Confident we can get through. If we play as well as we can then this tie is no problem.

A Liverpool goal pretty much ends the tie. We must keep them out. Score 2 with any kind of time left on the clock and they will panic.
