Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Savinho, Doku, Khusanov and Marmoush all played really well and deserved something out of the game.

If Pep is going to persist with the style that’s been so successful we are going to need like for like replacements for Kev, Gundogan, Kovacic, Walker and Stones. We’d essentially need the “new” version of each of these players.

If that’s not achievable he’s going to need to change the style.

We completely outplayed Liverpool. We passed sideways more. We passed backwards more. We dribbled past Alexander Arnold 10 times then turned back into him and dribbled past him again. Our control of the centre circle was incredible. It's almost like they wanted us to.
You nearly had me there.....until I read the whole post!

Not to downbeat. we played well in the first half, they get two lucky goals and parks the bus.. Doku, Savio, Mamush, Nico, Khusanov very good, hopefully we have Erling back soon + the Argie lad + Bobbiniho. We have an ok run in now so I think the CL spot are more or less safe. Its upwards from here.

Expected, but still fucking pathetic.

Positives: Savinho, Khusanov, Gonzales and Marmoush look immense buys.

Got to give some praise for Liverpool, they were so compact whenever we attacked, but still managed to break with pace and often outnumber us at our end. They worked really hard and all put in a defensive shift. They were the hungry, and the definition of humble.

We've got a load of players who run forwards twice as fast as they run back to defend. Until that changes again we're not be top level.

Nice one GMP, let the murdering fans out early why don't you. Incompetent

The only consolation is knowing that all the Liverpool fans would have been screaming at their TVs, wondering why their team wasn't really putting us to the sword. They could have.

I expect some of them were even bored, at the total lack of jeopardy they faced today.

What a sad state of affairs, really.

Come on, Pep - sort them out. All the trophies were won not by flashes of individual brilliance (or players running particularly long distances) but by a well-drilled group of players all on the same song sheet, showing for each other.

Most passes were short, non-technical, with most of the damage done by the players instinctively moving into space to collect the ball. It's rare these days that e man on the ball has a choice of players to pass to. The days of 3 or 4 buzzing around while the the opposition nervously run themselves into the ground seem a hundred years ago.

Yep - age has taken its toll, but some proper back-to-Pep-basics could still salvage something this season, surely, before ingraining a more modern, faster direct approach during the off-season?

Oh, I forgot - stupid CWC puts paid to that...

We did not play well in the first half for fucks sake!!!!!!

To be honest the main difference between the sides is Salah having the season of his life and they simply have more legs than us.

It’s never mentioned as a legitimate reason on TV but we were without Haaland, Rodri, Dias and Stones. If we were playing them without Van Dijk, Konate, Gravenberch and Salah, not only would it be shouted from the rooftops, but we’d have probably won as well.
Dias came on and created a great chance ….
