Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Rico played fine...he's brave on the ball, willing to play progressive round the corner passes, rather than just safe ones He is mobile and gets around the pitch. His reading of the game is good too, nicking the ball on a number of occasions.

His big weakness at the moment is to believe he is stronger on the ball than he is, and an aversion to a % ball, leading to lost possession in poor areas at times. This is being brutally exposed by Rodri's absence and therefore has often led to big chances or goals.

When Rodri is back and (if) Rico keeps maturing, he will be a very good player in this side.
Apart from his fuck up that led to the corner that led to their first goal he did well.

Nah teams now know how to play against us, they have changed to adapt to how we play, Pep has never changed his style to accommodate others abd that is the issue we see now
The players are not go9d enough...they previously were but some now too old and the new ones are not cutting it ...therefore the system makes little to no difference at the moment...there is no system for the mix of players that are available
Kdb - finished
Gundo - finished
Sav - prodpect nothing more
Doku - brave but no end product
McAtee - prospect
Foden....no clue what's happening with him
Grealish - always overrated and no future here.
Marmoush - can he step up...going to have to improve a lot
Kovacic - always been a step below
Bernardo- 50/50

Nico out of all is the only one of be comfortable saying that he inproved our midfield and should be playing next season...obviously with Rodri

In midfield the lads who are finished we move on...but the quality that is left us also questionable

Then you have the problems defensively

Rico...not good enough anywhere
Dias...starting to show signs of weakness
Ake - finished
Stones - finished.
Gvardiol....very inconsistent
Walker - gone
Khusonov - has a future eith us

Then there are other prospects.....Bobb, Echeverri.....but they are only prospects

Besides Rodri, haaland and Dias, we are lacking assertive leaders as well

nuance on Blue Moon? whatever next!?

That game was over the moment the team sheets went in.

Without Haaland, Rodri, our 1st choice cent halves - why was Dias left out - & trying to hide players at both right back & in central midfield we just cant compete with top sides with what we have at the moment.

Liverpool coasted it & we never looked like scoring. Foden was particularly bad - he has to star for us to win but he's had a rather abject season save for a brief recovery in January.

KDB is a passenger these days sadly; peripheral to the game, and a complete liability when we don't have the ball. What a servant he has been but aside from 15 min cameos in games where we have the upper hand, we can't carry him like we tried to today.

Conversely if you took Salah, Gravenberch, Van Dijk and TAA out of Liverpools team they wouldn't look so magnificent either, as evidenced in the FA Cup recently. Footballs a cyclical business and we fell asleep at the wheel in 2024 and let an older team drift way past its best.

Our fixtures in Feb looked horrible. However we got bonus wins vs Chelsea & Newcastle, and still hold 4th spot. If we get anything at Spurs it'll be a welcome bonus as easier fixtures are upcoming for us. We are still very much in touch, and as Pep pointed out we haven't dropped off to 15th in what has been a down season - but not a compete disaster like some others are experiencing (again).

Top 4/5 still possible and the FA Cup is something to aim for as well. Lots to play for but today showed graphically how much work needs to be done in the summer. Right back and 3 class midfielders should be the starting point.

Other than that...

never laid a glove on them.
We huffed and puffed but never created a serious chance. Liverpool were excellent defending their lead but if the situation had been reversed, and we'd gone in 2-0 up at halftime, you know we wouldn't have had the same organisation and discipline.

KDB is absolutely finished. I can understand he's lost some pace and aggression but he can barely make a simple pass these days. Foden worries me; has he peaked? He's just not doing the things he did last season.

Liverpool were fast and direct when they moved the ball forward whereas we were slow and ponderous. But Doku & Savinho absolutely terrorised TAA and Robertson although none of our players make that near-post run when they needed to. Roll on next season

Rico is not a full back and needs to develop a better passing range to progress to a starting midfielder. He is a gutsy fucker though who tries and tries for 90 minutes, hopefully he's learning and learning for 90 minutes. He's only young and will improve.

Out of curiosity is Echeverri in Manchester yet?

Absolutely spot on. Great post

If people think normal service will be resumed next season they're in for a rude awakening. Even with Rodri back and Haaland playing today we seem to be lacking in a few areas.
Couldn't agree more. We have prospects all over the pitch but will any of them be good enough in the end...Sav, Doku, Marmoudh, McAtee....none of this is there fault but lose the players ttat we know we need to lose and these then become our mainstay of players and that is worrying....you can't replace the likes of KDB, Bernardo and Gundo eith potential and prospects

Summer 2025 isxs transfer window that could define the club for a few yrs

Must admit I have my doubts about Rico but I thought he was fine today. He put in a gritty shift. Good squad player imo.

Just got back.
Waste of a day.
We are unrecognisable as a team with zero structure of play.
The fall off is huge and we will end up circa 7th-8th meaning no UCL and unable to sign the top quality players.
Pathetic again.
The easiest 6 point the Dippers will get this season

Possibly, with the derby though, I thought we were the better team and but for two almighty cock ups we would have won the match. Today, I thought we got away with a 0-2 defeat and l’pool, could have gone into another gear and wiped the floor with us. Let’s face it, we all knew exactly how the match was going to pan out only a minute and a half in with Gvardiol’s customary misplaced pass just 10 yards off our own 18 yard box, I almost screamed at the telly when he did that.
Gvardiol plays that ball at least once in every match. A definite blind spot.
