Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

There is a valid concern that next season will also be another transitional season. We should consider binning off the club world cup to let some of these players recover.
They are knackered. After this summer competition, next summer will be the world cup, then who knows what the following summer.

Every time he got past Alexander-Arnold, he had no idea what to do with it. We could have had 6 in the box and he wouldn’t have got his ball past the first defender.
If he's constantly putting the ball at the front post, I think he has an idea of what to do, it's just no one was there, and no one gave him other options.

Pep will work on the end product with him. The constant going past defenders is purely natural - you can't coach it. The final ball can be coached.
Hopefully with the chance for more training sessions until the end of season that’s a priority as I’ve seen very little progress in 18months

Treat the club World Cup like a pre-season tournament… it should have no more priority than that

He has no end product mate. He’s a good dribbler, decent at cutting in on his right but he’s got no crossing ability.

Have to accept the scousers played a blinder, matched their team up to our weaknesses, hit us on the counter, we were toothless but with a few notable exceptions played okay. Downsides, Phil another game to forget, same for KDB also please never ever bring on Gundo or Kovacic again, Ilkay is a legend but he's now playing walking football, whilst Kovacic's ability to lose the ball is now epic, and whisper it, another game where the main man Pep got it wrong. Win 8 of the last 12 and we'll be top 4/5

I’d like to see O’Reilly partner Nico, Mamoush behind Erling. Drop Kevin and Phil. Change the right back and continue with this sides when possible. Ederson Khusanov Dias Ake Josko Nico O’Reilly Doku Mamoush Sivinho Haaland. Youth, physicality and pace. If Ake gets injured blood the young Brazilian.

We're entering encharted territory where teams don't even fear us again, the Etihad fortress, the air of invincibility, the spirit of the team is slowly being stripped away, this is why the rhetoric of 'next season we'll be better', 'we'll have a summer overhaul' is dangerous, we are doing serious damage to our 'Aura' 'Atmosphere' 'brand' whatever you want to call it.

Call me arrogant or plastic, but this season is not acceptable, dropping a few levels is understandable especially when you take into account injuries, mental fatigue etc, but falling off a cliff? Something is amiss.

Said it before, I'll say it again, team is not playing for him anymore.
The entitled attitude of a rag/dipper/Tarquin there.

When I saw the line up I feared the worst and it turned out as expected. We were shite today and barely created any meaningful chances. The subs at the end was Pep throwing the towel in. I never usually ever leave early, but when he put Gundo, Kovatic and Dias on I decided I couldn't be bothered to watch any more if we weren't going to try any more.

Maybe but for this game it wasn't the problem, not even the best wingers could create something with so few players in the box.

Just forget about O'Reilly mate.

Like it or not there are similarities in the games we’ve been losing.
We struggle against teams who combine a low defensive block with pace up front.
Until we have pace at the back this will continue.
Khusanov is definitely going to be part of the answer but we need to sign a few more defenders with real pace especially now we have lost Walker.
Not sure how quick Reis is but we must have more pace than Ake and Dias can provide.

Pep has adapted throughout his time at City. We got 100 points with Delph at left back ffs.

The one thing you can't adapt to is age.
If you look at the teamsheet today, other than Ake, KDB, and Ederson, it was actually a very young group out there from the start. So, I actually give credit that I think Pep went with the team that he is largely planning to build around going into next year. Of course, the likes of Rodri, Dias, and Haaland will take their spots back when they are healthy and available. Thought most on here would be happy to see no Gundo or Bernardo in the starting XI.

When teams go this low, it is unlikely to go back to normal service again in the next season. Confidence of many players is shattered this season. It will take some time and soul searching.
One bad season by our standards in nine years is extraordinary - setting aside the injuries and the page turning on some stellar careers. After twenty-six games every side is exactly where they deserve to be - no false positions, no ifs, no buts, no maybes, no wuddas, no cuddas, no shuddas. We're fourth - above the media darlings Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs, United. Much can change for sure, but the teams below us are below us for a reason after twenty-six games.

the major fault lies with Pep and his coaching staff

Still playing the same old stitty football that most teams now know how to play against is beyond stupid

At a very basic level most mangers would recognise that we can not fuck around with it like we once did at the back, we still do and that was the first goal today
All opposition teams after do is sit back, laugh and relax whilst watching us play crab football in front of them, side to side shit and not getting anywhere and then wait for our fullbacks to do one of our tactical fuck ups and just walking through, shoot whilst Eddie jumps over it. Quite simple to play against really, oh and then just keep repeating them instructions

We were well off the pace today and being completely realistic about it the most damning thing is a combined eleven from today's teams would not feature one of our players
Was thinking the the same, with the current state of the squad, not many of ours start for Liverpool.
