Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Apart from the offside attempt by Marmoush in the first half and the shot he had after their goal was ruled out, I can’t think of any clear cut chances we created. Liverpool sat in a good shape which nullified anything City could do. Haaland missing made us look very lightweight up top and Liverpool knew they could sit and then pick the 2nd balls up and break when required. We started the game alright but when the goals went in the panic set in and out players started to hide from wanting the ball.

Two passive performances against two teams in Madrid and Liverpool whom City have caused a lot of psychological damage to over recent years. How do we get that back?

Complete rebuild and to be fair it's started and started well, Khusanov, Marmoush and Gonzalez are a good start, long term Reis will be a quality player, big summer, pay what it takes for Wirtz, time for the club to make a statement that were going nowhere and will be back to challenge after the summer.

People seem to forgot we’ve played arguably the 2 best sides in Europe in the space of a week. Not too concerned after these losses because we were never competing anyway with these sides

Next few games will be a better measure of where we are and yes I’m still confident we’ll get top 4. Once week a game soon and a favourable run in on paper.

We’re getting over the hill of a horrible fixture list now
That's actually how I feel I thought we played ok yesterday they was just better than us when they had to be we huffed and puffed but there was positives from yesterday and like you say it's been a tough few weeks fixture wise the best month will show what were made of

Top four ,and a left back right back creative midfielder and see what the situation with the goalie is rodders back bobb back I think were in a good position
For next season

Enjoyed our first-half display from our wide men, little wrong with our approach play, but just nothing in the box.

For me, Foden is playing for his entire City future as a regular starter, factoring in the Gonzalez signing and the need to buy a Kev replacement.

Once Rodri is back, someone will then move down the order and Foden is showing nothing to suggest he is ready to take the final step.

We had a lot of younger players out there and Foden is now an experienced, serial trophy winner, showing little in any respects.

Khusanov continues to impress. Doku and Savinho are excellent buys, but they now need support of real quality around them.

I do think if Rodri and Nico play together, the entire team will be elevated in terms of retaining possession and it will elevate the rest.

Need a right back, creative midfielder, striker and goalkeeper. Good to go

The frustration with Foden is that he calls for the ball (a pass) in positions where it is impossible to find him….He is not finding proper space and at times appears to be going through the motions.

Pep had a few rants at him about this yesterday….Foden just doesn’t work hard enough at the moment and unfortunately even his usual fabulous first touch has deserted him.

At times Doku was superb but playing both Doku and Savio on their weaker sides means that inevitably there is a delay with the final ball.

Not sure about Nico yet, but it’s early days and he hasn’t had a lot of support in the middle in the last two games.

Khusanov will be a rock for City and it should be him and another as a Centre Back pairing from now on…..we have got to prepare for next season as well as ensuring we get over the line for 4th place.

For me the priority has got to be another two midfielders for next season….we can’t flog Rodri again plus there are no guarantees that he will come back as he was and we are so desperately short of creativity.

I am not sure how good O’Reilly is but he has got to get some game time between now and the end of the season……Gundogan, De Bruyne, Kovacic and maybe Bernardo should only start when covering for injures.

Well, it wasn't grim viewing like the Madrid game (away), but neither was it pretty or a continuation of the Newcastle form.

We need to recognise that despite our possession and statistical 'dominance', Liverpool did play a very nice away game - controlled the shape of the game, controlled their own 18 yard box completely, and went on potent forays on the counter. I do think that Liverpool could have offered more if they needed to, but they didn't need to. I also think a strongest City would have caused them a lot more issues (and probably won).

The reality is, at no point did i feel we were about to make a stirring come back, at no point did it look like we were going to put them in a panic and fight back for a point.

One telling moment came around 70 mins when we had had the ball for 10 mins with very little goal threat. Alisson collected a wayward pass and booted it right up in the air to a completely isolated Salah, who not only won the ball but managed to get a shot away. Big hoof, player on his own, nearly scored. 7 seconds. vs 10 mins of huff and puff.

Khusanov good, Doku very positive if little end product, Savinho continues to offer some promise. Marmoush needs to keep working at it, and Gonzalez wont have a chance to prove hinself until he's in a settled midfield next season.

I think we just need to accept that Doku will never have any end product. He is brilliant at beating his full back but needs someone obvious in the box, such as Haaland, to lump the ball to.

Agreed. We played better than we did in Madrid. A lot of crosses went begging and Haaland was missed. Liverpool we’re just better than us as they have been all season.

On one hand I want to defend him (and Savinho) for being relentlessly positive, and having to pick out a diminutive Foden against two massive centre halves all game, i mean, it just wasn't going to happen. So much so he opted to cut back to advanced centre mids for a large portion but no fucker on the edge wanted to shoot.

On the other hand, he relentlessly crossed low to the near post, it was all a bit samey, he needed to chip a few, cut a few back deeper. In that respect, he was very one dimensional.

That said Savinho has a better end product now after being coached. Doku never lifts his head to look before crossing. He can be improved I think.

Agree on all you said about Phil.

We need another box to box type imo too - maybe even another LCB

We did that for years. We always outworked the opponent and pressed like lunatics. It’s only stopped this season.
I was replying to a comment about "the blueprint Everton and Villa showed us".
I still believe the main reason it's stopped this season is simply because the players are knackered having had bugger all rest for several years. However too many players are getting on a bit and can no longer produce the skilful stuff with the ball. Pep's success at City has been built on a small squad system with every player working hard and being at the tops of their games. That's no longer the case.

I think it's more to do with the PL trying to slow us down.

Looks like the money is being spent on Lawyers, rightly so as you need the best to defend against corrupted crooks,
and less on recruitment and coaching.

A lot of people have left the Club over the last couple of years but have they been replaced with quality?

Probably kept players longer than we would have liked as well.

No way should KDB, Stones or Gundo be starting big games, they are fooked after half an hour, that's if you get the long out of Stones.

Didn't think they were owt special today, but they didn't have to be.

Robertson and Arnold were beaten time and time again but we had no one attacking with the wide men.
"115" has stopped us recruiting. 100%.

But it's also hard to build a squad that wins 6/7 leagues that is easy to dismantle at the exact right moment. It is what it is. I don't think you can be too hard at anyone on the club.

See I don’t think it has. You can include last summer but Pep was on record saying he was offered signings but didn’t want them. The previous summer of 2023 after the charges dropped we spent £200m odd. £175m this Jan

We’ve spent money no doubt

Phil has the talent. I don't know what's wrong with him ATM but hopefully he can get it back.
Perhaps just struggling as part of a struggling team. Only really know peak City. Fingers crossed he re-appears next season along with the teM

look its rare you can blame him for goals.

but look at Raya, Martinez, Allison, Courtois.

They pull off unbelievable saves and really good saves sometimes to keep their teams from conceding during pressure moments.

this guy never does. theres a reason our goals conceded to shots ratio is so terrible its him!!
spot on, pep plays him for his kicking,

Opinions are like arseholes etc
Some think we played well others think we were shite.
I think we can all agree this team as it stands is no longer the team that scares opponents.
Personally I thought we played ok but the scousers didn’t really need to do anything
They’ve obviously sat and watched our games and saw we create very little against top sides.
That couldn’t be any easier for them to manage this game.
Doku sav and kus aside the rest looked worryingly bad.
And what the fucks happened to Phil?
His all round game has disappeared

Roll on summer
